Need Transmission HELP ASAP!!!! DX / SI
I know this topic is up there all the time but I could not find it on the forums anywhere..
I have a 91 Crx SI, about a year ago I swaped out the SI tranny with a 90 HF tranny, because of commuting reasons. The only bad thing about this is that I gave my SI tranny to one of my boys that moved away... So I no longer can get the tranny back.
I wanted to know if there is a big difference in the DX tranny over the SI tranny>? The reason why is that I can find plenty of DX transmission but never any SI.

a dx trans will work the only diff. is the gear ratio's are different, si has shorter gears...check in our faq section...https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1508680
So what I am getting at is that since the tranny's are really the same but the final drive ... the DX will just have higher top speed while the SI tranny will die out sooner on speed..
Ex. ( 1/4 Mile Race)
91 Crx Si with a SI tranny...
91 Crx Si with a DX tranny... they both take off at the same time ..... both shifting at the same RPM's .... will both cars will finish at the same time ???
as some are saying that the tranny's are really not that much of a difference.. when I swap in a DX tranny into my si... It will still feel the same as the Si tranny??? just with more top speed.... If that is the case then why not just use the DX tranny and have good AcC and Good highway speeds.
Sorry for the confusion if some dont get this post... Its just I have been driving with a SI tranny and got used to it.. then After the Friend thing I had to stay with my HF tranny which made me hate my life... I am just tring to get as much info as I can because if it is that much of a difference between the 2 tranny's I might s well keep looking for the Si tranny and spend the extra bucks =-(

You'll feel a difference. I have an Si tranny in my crx, and a dx tranny in my civic, and there is definately a difference. Personally i dont think its a bad difference though. I find the DX tranny is easier to drive, if you want to DD the car. Its a lot more managable, for me anyway, especially in traffic because youre not constantly shifting between 1-2-3, you can usually cruise in 2nd or even first with the DX tranny.
there thats the answer that I was looking for ....... Ya I want my CRX to be how my old crx was..... My single still pulls hard....... but it has to work for it with that HF tranny.... I guess I will hold off and find the Si tranny as soon as I can...
I was putting it to the test because when i had my B16 in my crx we droped in a LS tranny for the start to get it going because i didnt have my Cable b16 tranny at the time... And the how it turned out was that the LS tranny Blows..... And the b16 tranny was were i felt home.. ( if that makes any since)
just tossing it in there because i didnt want to make the same mistake and toss in a DX tranny and have myself hating it because it was slow like a LS...
sucks because it is SO HARD TO get a SI tranny( that has not been through some torcher) no matter what year 88-91..
If anybody has a SI tranny 88-91 plz hit me up with a link or a number I can contact you at...
Keep this thread up if you can so I can get more info..

What kind of a difference did switching transmissions make as far as gas mileage? I've been thinking about putting an SI transmission in my DX.
Well I went from 30+ mpg on the highway and 26+mpg in-town depending on how high I was shifting from the Si tranny...
When I droped that lame *** HF tranny in I am currently getting 38+mpg highway and 32+ in-town..
So that could be a rough estimate on the SI tranny...

KK I got the tranny...
But I was only able to get ahold of DX spindles....
The teeth are the same as the SI spindles right ???..
Its just I know for a fact the Teeth on the HF are less then the DX and SI...
Any help or confirmation on this ???
Thanks Keeblar

I know DX and SI axles are interchangable as well as the wheel hubs if that is what you mean by spindles. I also believe that the # of teeth in the HF, DX, and SI tranny are the same. Long story short, try the your old spindles first and see if everything matches.
Hello Everyone,
I own an EE8 1.6 VT Vtec, 150 HP, Year 1991 (which is the EF8 US Version). I live in Europe.
Does anyone know if the transmission Y1 gearbox fits onto the EDM CRX ( EE8 Vtec 150 HP) with the B16A1 (which is mine) directly plug and play? The EDM gearbox-Code is Y2 on the EE8 Build: !990-1991, cabel clutch.
