Default RSX Type S: New Owner finding out some issues... Help!

Hi,

I am new to the forum, so I hope I am posting in the right place. I bought a 2002 RSX Type S a few days ago and I am just finding little things about it that are worrying me. For example, when I put the car into second gear, if I am accelerating it is fine, but if I take my foot off the gas and then accelerate again, half the time the gear will jump out. If I hold the gear in, it is fine and does not even make any noises, but it is annoying me quite a bit. What could be wrong and how much would it cost to fix?

Also, the car did not have a back window wiper. The hole where the wiper should come out of has a rubber thing on it. Is this a common modification? Is it possible to survive without it in the winter or should I be looking to put it in? If this is a common mod, are all the mechanisms still in there, or have they been taken out? I called a scrap yard and they said if the mechanism is taken out, I would need to buy the entire hatch which is ridiculous.

And the last thing, the front plate is missing a bracket so I cannot put the plate on. Any suggestions?

Al

2nd gear i don't know. it's a common issue with the type s, though i never heard of 2nd gear popping out just 3rd gear.

the rear wiper was probably deleted and used a block off plate. probably leave it off cause you'll need to buy a new motor and wiper.

buy a new from plate frame from acura.

Hey, It is a one owner car with 114 Kilometers (about 72K Miles) on it.

The gear is the issue that is really worrying me because I heard it might cost thousands to fix and I am broke after buying it!

Hey, Great news! I fixed my transmission. It was the most stupid problem ever and I cannot believe that my mechanic was telling me I need to get the transmission rebuilt. The coolest thing is that I found out what the problem is and fixed it myself with zero money, so I am feeling real good now! So the problem was that basically one of the elastic tubes from the engine was passing close to the thingies that the gear cables are connected to on top of the transmission box (sorry I dont know any proper names) and I noticed that when I change the gears, the second gear causes the thingies to hit the tube and cannot move all the way. This was causing it to pop out easily. The giveaway sign was the marks on the tube. So, the simple solution was to route the tube away from the gear change thingies and now it works PERFECT. It was a great weight off my mind. I wonder how many other people have this issue because of a similar cause... Sometimes these mechanics that put in the air intake and the engine header route things without regard to repercussions like this one, and they would just love to rebuild your transmission and charge you a couple of grand!

That's awesome news! Good to hear your car is back on the road, without a problem.
