anyone build a stand to store engines/blocks? looking for ideas..
i have a few spare engines & blocks and need a way to store them and move them.
the standard engine stand takes up too much floor space for just one engine. i was thinking about taking that general idea and stacking the motors two high. maybe mod the bottom section to support one motor there.
any innovative ideas out there?

Would something like this take up too much floor space?

It's only $60 by the way.

Be more specific about how many engines you need to fit in how big of a space...

i like the idea of the rack shown but space along the walls is getting short. i have about 8 honda 4 cyl. engines.
the standard stand takes quite a bit of floor space for just one engine. i am thinking about making a couple of stacks of three on casters that i could move.
i mght start with a standard 1000# 4 /wheel/caster stand and extend the post and add some plate to bolt the engines to. maybe add some tubing or angle on the front and have two stacks of 2 each. still would be within the 1000 # limit of the casters, etc.
start with this:

maybe i can time a 15% off coupon with a sale...

I used to have maybe a dozen of them stacked on those big shelves like Home Depot uses. They throw old ones out on a regular basis and I got a bunch for free. Had the shelves/motors from floor to ceiling - IIRC, that was maybe five blocks vertically.

load up a truck with radiators or catalytic converters...we took the rest of the day off after that, haha

I have a blown block taking up space in my garage, I was told it is worth some cash, but can anyone give me a ballpark on what to expect? I don't want to take the effort to haul it away for like $20.
Bare block + crank, I might even throw in all the metal shards and broken bits.

Aluminum is like $1.30 per lb up here if its just straight aluminum. If its mixed with steel (ie. Honda block) its worth like $.80 per lb. I save all my scrap aluminum from fabricating in a 55 gal drum. Usually worth $300-500 a barrel.
