Default Wiring LED strip - 3rd Brake Light

I have a CF duckbill on a 97 hatch without a brake light. I purchased an LED strip as a third brake light but im not exactly sure how to wire it up?

I did some searching but most posts talk about the Vis or SEibon duckbills with built LED.

The LED strip has a black and red wire and no instructions. I assume power and ground wires?

Would I need a voltage regulator?
Can I wire it directly to the wires which powered the original light bulb?

Any help would be appreciated! Ill try posting pictures of what I ordered.

Cheers!

There's two wires coming out of your hatch.
There's two wires coming out of the LED strip.

Is this really a question?

Yeah I can understand the simplicity of the question but I was curious to know if the wiring was straight forward.

I wanted to know if I would need a voltage regulator?
I mean I wouldnt want to burn out the LED in a month.

The wires are only going to put out about 11.5 - 12.5 volts.

If this LED strip is made for automotive purposes, they should be self-resisting. If you bought it off some computer modding site, then you may need a load equalizer.

Yeah they are for truck/car applications so I assume they have internal resistance.
It wasnt very pricey so Im going to wire it up and see what happens! Any chance of blowing some fuses?

Thanks!

unless you mess up the wiring BAD it shouldnt blow any fuse. very easy...

BUT BE WARNED.... check which wire has power on the car..... if you wire up the leds wrong and they are cheap @ss led strips then they can burn up if wired up in reverse....

good ones have a diode in them to prevent burning them up, they just wont light up which tells ya to switch the 2wires.

LED = Light Emitting DIODE.

They ARE Diodes, and will only work in one direction
