Default Just had A/C recharge &.....

97 Integra LS, and I had one of those $29.95 + freon coupons and just had the system flushed and recharged. I was under the impression that the freon bottles at the auto parts stores were about $10 a can or so and you would need 2-3 tops. So that is about $30.00+ $29.95 + tax at worst. HOWEVER when I get the bill they are charging $26.00 an LB and I needed 2 LBs. Holy crap !!! So I get this bill of 90.00. WTF !!! I question the manager and he says that is the price. Now is that what it REALLY should cost per pound ? Is that about average or did I just get screwed/scammed ? I am pleased with the results but damn ! Didn't see that one coming when I thought the bill would be in the neigborhood of $50-60.

By the way, I had tested the temp at 59.4? beforehand and now it is at 42.2? I will take that. I had tested 2 other cars with the R134, a 3000GT & a Miata and they were at 43.6 & 43.4 each.
Darn cold now. Happy with the results just not the cost. What is your take on the above ? Thanks !!!

$90 sounds about right to me for getting professionally recharged.

What type of thermometer did you use? Like the one you stick in your mouth? Or do I have to buy a special one?

No, I took one of those digital thermometers you can get at any store. Not exactly scientific by placing it up to the vent and tweeking/angling the sender so it will get the coldest possible but it gives a pretty good read out. I was advised it should be in the low 40's to be good. I guess I was a tad taken back by the cost per LB of freon. I guess I should just bring my own next time I ever need to take a car in. ( I better never ).

Price sounds right for a flush and recharge, butthe price of the r-134 seems questionable.
