Low sided my bike the other day
Sucks, but I knew i would crash eventually. Lowsided the bike in a turn. Was taking in the normal speed I usually do, something felt wrong half way through and started to brake but went off the road, hitting a patch of loose dirt which didn't help the braking process. This road is notorious for having dirt all over it. I'm thinking that is what happened. Insurance is going to cover it all, was quoted at 4500. Which is weird, cuz I thought it was all cosmetic. Bike rode home just fine.
Anyway, insurance said it wasn't going to go against me since it was road conditions, then I get a notice saying I was found 100% at fault for failure to control my vehicle. I believe that it is now going to count against my record and raise my rates. The notice said I could contest it, so I was wondering if any of you guys had any tips on what I can do to try and show that it wasn't my fault and that the poor nature of the road led to the crash. Or am I just fighting an uphill battle? Pics are here. Notice the frame slider, I took that picture straight on. That is where I think the high estimate came from.

That is really unfortunate. Im not sure what will end up happening, but I really do hope that for such an incidence, they will not tarnish your record, and will put it down to the road conditions. Sounds like there isnt too much you could have done.
Good Luck

I know it doesn't look that bad, that is what I said. But somehow it it ended up being 4500 which leads me to believe there was more than met the eye. So maybe it is good I went and reported it.

I wouldn't claim it that is way too much and it's going to raise your insurance rates. Look for some stock bodywork on some of the racers boards. [freak] insurance they just want to rip you off!
No the slider looks to have put a nice dent/bend in the frame. You can tell in the picture. THIS will total the bike when a repair shop takes it apart. You can have a rock scratch the frame and insurance co. will total it these days. They say that it does not have the structural strength as it did on day 1.
Ok, so I got back talking with the mechanic at the dealership. Turns out every body panel is being replaced, including he gas tank, frame sliders, right side pedals, and such. He said the frame is fine, just scuffed. Im thinking that the bolt just bent in the frame slider. According to one of the insurance guys, my rates wont go up, because it was not a collision as no one else but me was involved, and the road conditions led to the crash. The mechanic was cool, he could tell that the scratches on the right fairing were caused by me when I first got it and dropped it without frame sliders, but said he reported it anyway saying i was shaking after the accident and dropped it on the other side. He was looking out for me since I bought it from them. So I guess I will see about the insurance rates.
What insurance do you have Lude? I remember when I spun my car out in the rain, my rates definitely went up. You could say my accident was also due to road conditions (single car accident, I didn't hit anyone).
Definitely coulda been worse. Was the road filled with dirt/gravel? If so you really shouldn't be held liable, but who knows. First bike?

Yeah it is. Ok, good news, it won't raise my rates. I was found at fault, but was not told of any raise in rates in that letter, so I think I'm in the clear. Not that bad too, through AAA on my parents policy originally they have had them some 20 some years and I'm only paying 50$/mo

[freak] insurance. Who cares if it looks pretty as long as it all good mechanically. I wouldn't trust them on not raising your rates.

geez 4500 to replace that is a bit much. i would just have the insurance company cut you a check and replace everything on your own for a lot less and more money into your pockets.
since the frame got scuffed i'm surprised they didn't just total out the bike.

Well, it was 3500 for al parts. He got the passenger peg replaced, every thing that is green on that bike except the rims, frame sliders, rear brake pedal, shift lever. He hooked it up since I bought the bike from them. Labor came out to like $600+.
