Default Front chassis/structure problems: need advice to how to re-enforce it

Anyone had/have problems with cracks developing on the front frame (side rail chassis) on a 1991 Crx? After 8 years of Soloraces and other lapping events, my frame has started to crack! I have plated it but the cracks came back at the welds! Another area affected is at the tranny engine mount.

I was thinking of replating it but with rivets this time? Any other suggestions? I got the fender braces, I hope this can help in some ways.

Last year: cracks came back.

This year: worst

If it were me, I'd media blast the undercoating off of the underbody. Then, grind down the crack for re-welding. Then, once that's done, weld a plate over the top of the crack. But, maybe that's me not knowing how bad it is.

Rivets are the last thing you want for that application!

I'd clean it off, drill stop the crack, v out the crack for better penetration, and then put a better weld on it. And finally plate over that but I would only weld horizontally.

A friend of mine works at an offroad shop and has welded frames before. He said for reinforcing stuff like that, you cut a plate with two fish tale like shapes opposing each other, kinda like you cut the heads off two fish and mated the cut surfaces of the bodies together. Then you weld all around it. I'm not quite sure if that will apply here, but it's an idea.

What car is this? I have never heard or seen this happen before? Details on car, how its run and parts please.

As stated the correct way to repair a crack is to drill a hole at each end to stop the crack to allow for a full plug weld on the ends and put a nice beval along the whole crack for good penetration.

Weld teh crack like others have said, but make sure to drill holes in the plates and put in some rosettes. That will spread the load across the entire plate instead of just at the outter edge.

exactly what i was going to say...spread the load out and have more weld surface area

Drill some holes that are maybe 3/8" in diameter across the plate. Don't go nuts and drill a million of them or anything. Just a few will be better than nothing. Then after you tack the edges to the frame rail, weld inside the holes so you're welding the plate to the rail. It's a crude explanation, but it should get the point across.

drill the ends of the crack. get a plate and weld it in alternating 1 inch sections 1 inch weld. 1 inch space. 1 inch weld and go around.
