Built N/A ls/vtec Dyno results
EDIT: I should say "Half-Built" not "Fully-Built"
I don't know if anybody remembers, but i went to the track a couple weeks ago with my ls/vtec... ran a 15.29 on some pretty bald 17" tires. Pretty disappointing. It had already been tuned before I bought it so I wasn't sure of the problem. Everyone said get a re-tune... so i did today. Went in with 112whp! It was running so lean the guy had to let off before even 6000rpm.
Using <CROME> we added some more fuel and switched the vtec engagement from 5300 to 5600. I came out with 163whp! Here is my set-up and my sheet:
Engine
JDM B16A head
Skunk2 stage 2 cams
BDL cam gears
Omni power springs
Omni power retainers
ARP head studs
AEBS intake manifold
Thermal Intake manifold gasket
RC 310 injectors
Chipped ECU with data logging
I think that’s it??
B18A1 LS block
Fresh honed
New OEM P30 pistons (11.7:1~ compression)
New OEM Oil pump GSR
New OEM Water pump GSR
ARP Rod bolts
Integra Type R transmission 97 spec LSD
Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch
Breathing/Cooling
Megan Racing header
2.25 exhaust (no cat)
Cold Air Intake system
GSR radiator
----------------------------------------------------------------
Red is my first run, Blue is final...

First Run: 112whp 111tq
Final Run: 163whp 122tq
And the car...

What should i do next for some more N/A gains? Anyone have any more suggestions for the tune? Comments?
I cant wait to get out to the track again with my new 15" lightweight tires and my 50 extra hp!

For sure! Next street legals here isnt until the 18th though
(Edmonton, Alberta, Canada)
Next purchase is going to be an AEM Wideband so i can tune part and full throttle some more.
It only costed me $150 bucks for 4 pulls on the dyno. Best 150 bucks i ever spent!

He's all excited about 163whp lol.. I'm not jocking on you.. but i'd compression / leakdown, make sure you didn't melt a piston.. or warp something
if your tuner was letting off at 6k, and u were more then likely probably reving to what, 75, 8k? you were leaning out pretty bad..
i would assume a stock ls vtec put down these numbers..

ya, that power seems low.
You're running pretty rich except from 5800-6400 (where you make peak torque). What i'd do is lean it out a bunch (to around 13:1-13.5:1) throughout the whole RPM range and see what kind of power you make.

Get the other half of your induction system up to snuff.
Megan 4-1 header

Looks like your motor is restricted.

i'd say the motor is hurt...
here is a very similar build...

Perhaps the OP should mention that Edmonton is not at sea level and therefore N/a power greatly suffers here.
On a regular day around her it will feel like the car is at about 3000-4000ft of altitude. In calgary the DA goes even higher. Their track is at about 2200ft of altitude.
With that said those are decent numbers for us as a stock b16 usually puts down about 125whp here...

notice how the AFR resembles the torque graph
fix your AFR and you'll gain some power back.
don't worry about the numbers. The graph itself looks fine and would be even better once it is tweaked appropriately.

Yeah, the A/F mix is still [freak]ed... i just had no idea what to expect when we went in there... We were in and out pretty quick.
Gunna go buy a wideband this weekend so i can tune the rest of the A/F.
Also, they are decent numbers compared to other similar setups around here... like Mr_ET said.. elevation here FTL.
Also, exhaust and intake DEFINATELY needs to be upgraded...

Also.. we didnt do much "tuning" after the first run we saw how lean it was... and we spent the next 4 runs adding fuel at full throttle... so in the end all we did was add fuel... about 50% more fuel actually aha. Still needs to be tweaked. Hope to be at 180 by end of summer.

163whp 122tq is pretty much just a bolt on GSR motor.
i had a similar set-up
95 GSR head
Skunk2 stage2 cams
Skunk2 intake manifold
DC 4-1 header 2.25 collector
stock TB
stock injectors
LS block
81.5mm PCT pistons
ARP rod bolts on stock PR4 rods
ACL race bearing
ITR oil/water pump
Base run on homeboyz chip P28 ecu 165whp 125lb tq.
Dyno Tuned on crome 181whp and 133lb tq.
do a compression test to see if ur cylinders are still good..
Mines were 295psi accross board when dynoed. -GL-

It sounds like you need to perform a leak down & compression test.
I agree with 98vtec on leaning out the tune a little.
You should be making more power then a stock b16 by far.

You should also be making simular power to these two setups:

Since internet numbers are exactly that, internet dyno numbers. My recommendation is to ask the dyno owner to overlay your dyno runs to a similar motor on the same dyno. This will give you a good idea as to whats going on.

Well, this thing hasn't really been tuned like i said... it was my first time on the dyno though... we went expecting to have time to tune, but instead just spent the hour just adjusting the air/fuel.
Also.. stupid me was running 87 octane. I have switched to 91 since. I also know that the exhaust is restricting the engine and needs to be changed.
Compression was 220 all the way across.

Quick fuel question..
What octane fuel should i be using? I was using 87... and peopel are telling me its terrible for my motor.. should iswitch to 91? I dotn know what to believe!

Alright, heading back to the track tomorrow with the new AFR, 15" tires and running 91. I guess we'll see what happens.
Im gunna dyno it again once I have time to perfect the AFR part and full throttle with a street tune, then getting better header/exhaust and adjust my cam gears a degree or two

I "Tuned" this motor.. it wasnt a tune really... it was more of a fix why it only ran a 15.3... as soon as I saw the AF I knew that was a huge problem. That dyno day was meant to fix the AF since the car didnt have a wideband.
Goals now are to street tune the AF to get it proper, as its still way out of wack but a million times better. I believe we can easily hit 180 with more tuning, and some cleaning up of things like exhaust, and header.
My bone stock 9:1 compression lsvtec revving to 6500 made 137whp and 120tq so there is still something wrong with his motor. I wouldnt be surpised it something was toasted.
He did a comp test and iirc it was 220ish across the board.
