Default OEM ITR built GSR - pistons and comp.?

here's going to be the setup. its going in a DD DC2 chassis.

GSR HEAD
AEM ITR CAI
Stock GSR TB
Blox IM
ITR intake cam/GSR exhaust cam
Skunk2 Pro series cam gears
ITR Valve Springs
Stock valves
Toda timing belt
Hytech replica header

As for the block, I'm not sure which route I want to go or which setup would be best. It's a DD and I'm keeping it all OEM.

I was just going to leave the block stock and just freshin it up with new rings and throw some ARP rod bolts on the GSR rods. my builder has shotpeened ITR rods w/ ARP rod bolts and he said we could throw them in. I was going to get some RS Machine ITR pistons to go with them. should I stick with the stock GSR compression or is it worth swapping the ITR setup in?

I don't really have a goal as far as dyno numbers but i'm going for strong midrange with a good/quick/reliable street setup. think 40 rolls

Throw those Gsr pistons away, any one of RS Machine's P30, PR3 or ITR piston would be great imo. Also since you have a Gsr head the comp. goes up some. Check some online comp. calculators to get an idea of where your comp. will be at.
Everything else sounds good

Btw i have brand new RS Machine PR3's for sale

i'm definitely going to swap the pistons out. will pr3's fit gsr rods? i can't remember. i'm sure there is a catch.

i just need to decide on a header too. i'm leaning more towards the pro fab now for this setup. it'll be fun, i'm hoping.

Yo OP, i pm'd you.
Im sure they'll fit, the only one's that require any work or machining are ITR pistons on ls rods.

Be prepared to put up some more cash then, If I was just looking for quick DD I would build the top end and not even touch the block. That's because I would eventually just rebuild the block if I were to change out the pistons just to make sure I covered all the bases...

How many miles are on the block?

There's 99k miles on the whole motor. it smokes and burns oil now, which is why i'm gonna do a quick rebuild. if i left the block stock, i could run the oem itr setup and have a decently quick dd. if i wanted to build the head, i wouldn't be able to run more than a stage 2 cam without losing a ton of power. my original idea was blox b's with 11:1 pistons but i also thought about throwing them in and leaving the block stock.

any suggestions? i've covered more than enough research. i've seen a couple guys on here leave the block stock with a built head and the numbers looked good question is, how does it run as far as a DD goes?

Here is my DD motor build up. It was intended to pass the BAR but still pushing it to the max for power.

95 Gsr block: Legit - Bought from SLVRSTN_DC4
Machining done by RSMACHINES
Bored to 81.75
RS ITR pistons
Stock rods
ITR water pump
Gsr non-LSD tranny
ACT streetlite flywheel
ACT Sprung hub clutch
99 Gsr head
P&P from Alaniz ( Street version ) - ( Receipt in hand )
RM Valve springs and Retainers
Stock valves
Skunk2 Stg1 cams
DC 4-1 header ( legal )
Carsound Cat ( 2 1/4 )
Gsr stock muffler
ITR intake Arm
Blox Velocity Stack
K&N Rf-1048 air filter
-------------------

Your better off going the RS ITR piston setup for your car. You will benefit and still be in the range for your DD setup. I am still in the process of getting my CAI, new header/exhaust setup and a new tune. This setup made 177whp and 124tq on Whitfield Racing dyno... I could see about 15-25whp just by a new intake, headers and exhaust....

If I added stage 2 or pro 1 cams, it will be a new whole playing field... 200whp +
Just something for you to think about... Good luck!

nice setup. very simple. if you had my induction setup, you'd almost break 200 imo.

Another OHIO GSR with ITR parts nice.
I have a very similar set-up, I used USDM ITR Pistons. Both the head and block have have a small amount of machining. 11.6:1 compression ratio with ITR cams.
I would say OEM P73, P30 or RS pistons. All very good options.

are you running itr valve springs in your setup? i think i remember you saying so. i'm probably just going to buy some rs itr pistons and match them with my builder's shotpeened itr rods already ready to go.

I bought the RS Machines ITR copies in 81.5mm. Very nice pistons however with my GSR ran into Piston-to-Deck issues. Don't know the history of the block I bought but the P2D was 0.007". Add in the thickness of a stock headgasket (0.030") and total of 0.037" of Piston-to-Head clearance which is on the tight side. If I had to do over I'd like to have gone with the RS PR3's which should have less compression height giving more clearance.
