Default Head gasket for Sohc ZC

Long story short the motor i got from a local shop was burning oil, and we figured that it was seals not rings.

The guy was gonna give me another motor or buy all 16 seals and a headgasket, so i desided to do that, to make sure i got a solid motor after all...

The question is, how good is this gasket for a regular daily driver that ill be taking for a trip of 3500 km in the end of the month.

I had suggestions to go with a y8 metal gasket, but i just wanna knwo if this one is a total no go.

And is it the real OEM replacement for those years d series? Or was there any gaskets that where metal for D series of 88-91?

Sorry to keep it long

thanks!

Misha-

Don't know that exact kind off hand, a OEM y8 will be **** if you don't mind shelling out a bit more cash.

When I went to buy a head gasket for my 91 CRX with stock D15 motor I found this :

http://hondaworkshop.com/misc/97-047TSB.jpg

Honda Service Bulletin regarding D series head gaskets. Unfortunately you not only have to buy the new MLS (multi layer steel) type gasket you also have to purchase new head bolts as well.

I had originally purchased the composite type gasket that you currently have but decided to return it and go with the MLS and new head bolts seeing as the service bulletin was straight from Honda.

I guess that it is ultimately up to you which one you want to go with.

Here is the thread I had started on my head gasket project if you are interested :

The reason they say new bolts as well, is because the stock headbolts are designed to stretch to a certain point, for proper torque to hold the head flat.

These are useless after being used. You CAN use them again, but I personally would do what Honda suggests for longevity....

Honda says silly things. Purchase ARP's even if you aren't making power as they can be reused again.

if your using the y8 metal two layer gasket. i would recommend getting the head resurface. the head gotta be pretty damn flat even across the head to sit that 2layer gasket. good luck

Call them back.. You need the Z6/A6 setup. The Y8 set IS DIFFERENT and almost definitely won't work at all.

EDIT: Few local posts from the past say:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=757364 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">the y8 has a different length stud than the z6, the z6 kit (208-4301) is labeled D16 on it (instead of d16z6) I also fitted them into my spare engine and those were the ones that worked fine.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I've done the gasket swap on the sohc zc, which is the same as a stock Si.

I just went down to T&T and bought the better metal gasket version from a 92-95 Civic Si.
Honda also has a better updated version for the original A6 engine
