F4i 600 vs Katana 750 real world riding
I have a katana 750 i just wrecked on the 4th of july. My buddy was bored and decided to slam me in the *** at about 30 mph with the front wheel up causing his back tire to skin the **** out of my arm as it flew by. My hand is jacked up to my dumb *** wasnt geared up although i usually am.
Anyhoo i got the call yesterday that bike is prolly totaled. Ive been die hard honda for about 15 years. I bought the katana on a whim after a 12 year break up, it was the only bike they had i could afford. Its a good bike, fast enough, has some meat on it its just a little mushy.
My buddy has a r6s (the *** rammer guy) ,its TO stiff, i like to get out and enjoy the air and look at the birds, relax and other gay types of things. I cant do it on an R6. Its like riding on a milk crate with an enigine thats so top end you cant even use it. I cant ride a kat to its limits let alone an R6, so whats the point?
So would a F4i be a good replacement for my kat 750? I know kats catch grief on the internet but it really is a good bike for my needs but i want a honda.

1st, if your story is true, you need to stop riding with his stupid ***. people like that reinforce stereotypes about the typical streetbike rider.
going from a katana 750 to an f4i will be quite a change. you almost have to wring its neck to see the pick-up you're used to on the katana. if you really want that low end grunt, why not look into sv650's or maybe even an 00-03 gsxr 750?

the f4i might be the most well rounded streetbike ever made. comfy, sporty, reliable as hell, and cheap to fix, it sounds like an ideal choice.
sv650 is another good choice.

The katana does sound like it fit your riding style well, but if your friends are any reflection of you, you probably want a little more Super Sport bike. The F4i seem to be the good balance that you are looking for. It is not as brutal as the 600RR and the other super sports, but it still have enough comfort and speed.

You know I'm going to disagree, right?
edit: BTW, I would look into a newer 750, or even a larger twin...think, ducati monster.

iono, either are hard to argue with. they may not be beautiful or particularly fast bikes--but they are versatile, especially compared to some of the supersports of recent years.

It still could be argued...ZZr600, R6S....even kawisucki's 650R and 500R are comparable.
VFR? that's easy...speed triple.

ZZR aka ZX6r is another good versatile bike, though a little awkward in the way that kawis always are. 650 and 500 don't have the same thrill factor as the f4i
S3's are awesome, and a step above the VFR in the grand scheme of things, but they're not really apples to apples. Also, for a 500 mi trip, i think i'd rather be on the vfr.

the zzr , 650r or 500r is no where near the build quality of a vfr or even f4i.
speed triple is a bad comparison to a vfr, a better one would be the 1050 sprint

the ninja 500 is definitely an old design, but the 650R seems to be of good quality.
I think what you meant to say was that the build quality of the Hondas may be marginally better.

They dont make VFRs anymore right? What was the last year? I saw one at bike shop today it looked a bit dated, im sure its a great bike. But i admit to having some poser in me. It needs to look good. Also my budget is at about 4500. An F4i is sounding good for my price range. Im such a honda ***** i feel weird riding a zook so i gotta get one.
The first estimate on my bike was 1900$ the guy that is doing the work says its not near enough and we found frame damage where the pass ft peg and exhuast bracket that the lady did not catch (its pushed in just a bit at the bracket). Any advice on how i can get them to total it out for sure? Its still up in the air apparently.

Be careful while watching the birds... at least pay some attention to the road (maybe 25% bird, 60% road, 15% hotties).
If you liked the Kat, why not try and find another one? Compared to the Katana 750, and F4i is going to feel peeky, racey and probably semi harsh over long distances. The F4i is an excellent all-around bike if you don't mind dealing with the reality that it was at one time a full-on super sport bike, and behaves as such. I would consider an SV650, or heck, how about a Ninja 650r. Both of those bikes are torquey, decent handling and comfortable bikes to ride.

I loved my F4i...very nice bike...had plenty of acceleration with -1 / +2 sprockets, and was nice and comfy as well. My GSXR is better in every way except for comfort though. What kind of price range are you working with?

Are you talking about build quality or refinement? I can agree that most Hondas are more refined that the Kawis we are talking about, but those Ninja 500s are absolute tanks. There is no problem with quality.

i think its the parts that honda uses like triple trees, single side swing arms, gauge clusters an so on that show there build quality, you get what you pay for.
and as for refinement, perfect example is hondas fuel injection, its always spot on, ive ridden busas where they kept shutting off and you need a pc3 to make them run right.
im a honda fanboy and it showing

It depends on what you are looking for in a motorcycle. Not everyone wants an all out super sport bike. Some like to just enjoy crusing around and that is fine. Some want show, some want go, some want relaxation and to escape the world around. Everyone have different reasons why they ride. It is just unfortunate that most people do it to "look cool".
