might buy a motor
a buddy of mine has a stock low milage z6 hes yanking from a car. i can get it cheap. if i were to bolt my dpfi on it and run an rpm switch to the vtec, which non vtec ecu would run it best? or is it even worth it?
Ok so you want to run an rpm switch to vtec but your dpfi?
You need to convert to MPFI before you can even think about running the vtec, then you have to hack up one ear on your distributor and run a bolt with washer on it. Better off to do a MPFI conversion, then OBD1 conversion.
But if your really wanting to stay obd0 and run a z6 off rpm activated switch then use either a PM6, or PG7 ecu. I had a built 12:1 Z6 in my old 90 CRX and before I went obd1 I ran a PG7 from a 88-89 integra. It has better stock fuel maps and higher redline.

yes, you can. actually rpm shift light is a great idea. i have an 89 crx dx, which is dpfi, i have an engine swap b16a obd0, check engine light keep coming on when i hit vtec, then no vtec, i found out the problem is vss, my crx is mechanical and jdm b16a is electrical, so i bought one of those rpm shift light to control vtec soleniod, vtec kicks in whenever rpm i want, problem solve!!! in your case shift light will work, dpfi works also as long as you keep the whole dpfi intake manifold, exhaust is not a problem, for distributor use your dx one, im sure it will fit, for ecu stay with your dx or get an integra ls, better fuel curve, the fuel curve going suck anyway because of home made vtec, ecu does not recognize vtec, so get an vafc to control air fuel ratio, recommended, see how it runs for now, always can add an vafc later, let us know how it work out, keep us updated.
im going back and forth. not sure what to do. i want the same or better efficiency. ive been trying to figure out wether i should just mpfi swap my stock motor (its a jasper rebuilt with like 30,000 miles.), or keep the dpfi and run a slightly more powerful motor which wont have to work so hard. obviously i know i wont make the rated hp of the z6 with a dpfi but it will be more than the b2 guaranteed.
