Abnormal Front End Noise?
Ok I have a 89 civic DX hb with a 92 LS and I did the swap about 5 mths ago. I have had the car lowered for about 6 mths. I have always had a weird nosie from the front end when driving over gravel or bumpy roads. My friend also has a 91 Civic we lowered and now it too makes this noise only mine seems to be louder and alot more noticable. It did not make any noise before we lowered our cars and now it does. Ok I have changed springs 2 times and struts 2 times still the noise checked tierod ends, ball joints and other suspeion points. Nothing seems too bad. It has gotten to be a very annoying facotr in driving the car. I was just wonderignif you guys/girls had any idea on what this could be casued from. I have had 4 other hondas and it seems like only the 88-91 have this problem. Does anyone esle have the same noise? Thank you in advance.
I have this problem as well. I narrowed it down to being worn inside the steering rack. You could rebuild it but it will be much more cost effective to just replace it.When you check the rack it will feel as if the inner tie-rods are worn or have play. If you hold them and bump on the wheel you will hear the noise from inside the rack, you may also feel a little play too. Also before you change it check the bolts that bolt the rear lower crossmember(holds the steering rack) to the body. Those loosen up on my car. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Does it kind of sound like a chain being dragged against the ground? Possible wheel bearing...had 2 go out on me last week.
Can you be more descriptive with the noise? Only over bumps, at high speeds, when EXACTLY? How long does it last, and compare it to something...

Yeah mine too sounds like that. The wheel being locked thing. It is more pronounced over bumps at any speed and even more on gravel. It is a feeling/ clank you can feel in the steering wheel. And tonight my car started to make a weird nosie kinda like the dust sheild rubbing against the rotor when you drive but it is not all the time only when you turn the wheels. And sometimes when the wheels are cut and you are driving. I am pretty sure that is not the problem (dust sheild) But I will check this out. And BTW the car only started making this CLANKING NOISE after I lowered the car. It rode fine before and I had no big sounds out of it. I am hoping it is maybe the rear crossmember needs to be tightened I will be getting underneath tomorrow. Wish me luck on my finds.HAHAHAHAHA
most likley when you lowered the car it changed the load distribution on the rack causing the worn inner tie rod ends to make noise. Cheaper to replace the rack than it is to repair is. mine did the same thing, new rack, noise is gone.
I have the same noise...look at your front motor mount....it may be broken
