Which bike would take it in a track race? 848 or RC51?
Hey guys so I was reading some specs on the duc 848 and claimed hp output to the crank is somewhere are 135hp. This combined with the fact that technology is slightly more advanced (just a little) and the weight is down, it made me wonder.
If you were to see a 2008 ducati 848 race an rc51, which bike do you think would take it?
If you think its a toss up, what kind of tracks do you think each bike would do better at?

I believe the 848 would absolutely run circles around the RC51. The RC is old technology, which was great for it's time. With the available modifications that can be bought, the RC can be very quick. But stock for stock, the Honda doesn't have a chance.
Also, the RC51 is better matched to the 1098, and it'd roll the honda like it's a 50cc scooter.

The RC51 is a lot of work to ride. While I've never ridden the 848, I'm sure that it steers a lot quicker than the old RC. A lot has happened since 2002.
I think that for an RC51 to be in the same boat performance wise as a stock 848, one would have to do the mods I've done plus some more weight reduction.

I got rolled pretty dang hard by an 848 on the straight at Summit yesterday. It would take a lot more power and a lot less weight for the RC to keep up.

Do you think he just had a better drive coming out of the corner because he was lighter and able to get it on earlier?
hahaha. Ruben Xaus style
I think a bunch of RC51 owners are going to get serious and start really finding ways to drop weight off our rides. I've got plans

Lord knows I need to, I was physically drained by lunch! Of course I need to do all the free weight savings mods
The 848 smokes the RC51 in terms of power to weight, suspension and brakes to some extent. Given equal riders, I'd say the 848 comes out quicker. Given an experience RC51 rider and a fairly new 848 rider and I think there is a good chance the RC takes the win.
THe rc51 too old to be compaired to a brand new 848. Hands down the same rider would easly run faster laps on thew 848 than the rc. Its like comparing a 2002 r6 to and 08 r6. To much time between them theres no way the rc would keep up unless heavly modified. The technology is too old. I wish they'd bring back the rc (after a diet and some good updates)

Drained by lunch? I'm doing alright until a couple after lunch and I'm way out of shape... Is this your first time at main on the RC or what? Btw what times were you running? I'm still slow but a few reference speeds are about 150 - 155mph (calibrated) when I let off down the straight and around 120-125 under the bridge before turn 10. I should be exiting turn 10 at around 90-95 mph if I don't screw it up. I'm in 3rd going into that to be able to maintain my drive out of there. Also I'm tipping it into the chute at about 125. I let off just for a split sec to dip it in then back on it hard in 4th.
oh and to the original question. I <3 the RC but equal riders the 848 will be faster especially if you look at stock to stock. Modern 600's beat the RC down the straight so... yeah

i was reading in motorcyclist on the 2003 big twins comparison that the rc lapped streets of willow a full second faster than a base ducati 999. Do you think that the 848 and 999 are comparable?
Id like to say that the two maybe pretty even. Maybe down to the rider?

My speedo is way off so I have no clue what speeds i'm running. I'm down 1 tooth in the front and would have to shift into 6th on the front, no idea how fast that is though. As far as lap times go, around a 1:30.x, which is slow, but I have a lot of speed to pick up in 10 and 4. Trackdays always kick my ***. It was my first time on Main with a totally dry track and also with the new "repairs", also my first time in Intermediate with NESBA, though I had no problem holding my own by the end of the day, and, according to a CR I was leaving a nice black strip all the way up the hill exiting T1

Interesting. I should be able to be in Intermediate with Nesba then as well. Just gotta go for a bump with them my next time out. I have the most time to make up in turn 1 through 3 personally... 4 I'm not bad and I got a lot better at 10 as well. There's always time to make up in the carousel too.
