I'm about to remove my crank shaft, but i've heard stories of them warping due to laying them the wrong way or storing them incorrectly... is there a special way i need to store one while I rebuild the engine? Do i just lay it down on a flat surface or do I need to stand it up on one end like a billiards stick?

 

Shafts should be stored upright.

How do I go about doing that? Would leaning it up against a wall be ok?

X2, I asked this question about 2yrs ago and that was the answer I got.

 

Just store it standing up strait. Don't lean it or place it at an angle. if your worried about it falling put a couple of boxs' around it, it will be fine.

 

Store mine upright, coated with oil, wraped in plastic garbage bag, wraped in bubble wrap, in a cardboard box, in the corner of my closet, flywheel side down.

 

Did similar, except used an old blanket instead of bubble wrap.

stand it up on its flywheel side and thats it, if it doesn't stand on its own, put a flywheel on it to help hold it up

 

wd40 + plastic bag, and make sure its standing up right as everyone else has said.
