the DOHC ZC is a better choice as far as performance goes

Well, in my opinion getting the DOHC ZC over there would get you more in the "STATUS" then "POWER" scene. I know the dohc is rare and "jdm" over there so it has some kind of hottness attached to it.

(over here we only had those not the sohc, except for some rovers and concertos)

The dohc came with (I think) 20 more hp (130) than the soch, so it is the right choice for power. Anyway if you don't care for such thing has "jdm", and don't intend on making much more modifications to it later, just get prices on both kind of engines and make the "bang for buck" simple cleaver maths. What ever gets you cheaper for each hp is the best choice.

Just my 10c, and good luck with it

The sohc is an A6 with a hotter cam. I literally just ask for parts as if I had a stock a6. The only difference in mine is that since my motor came out of a 92+ and it went into a 90 si, stock belt sizes dont fit. That was simple enough to fix... I took the belt that was on the zc and said, "gimme one this size". All parts and such are the same. I have one in my car and it has been reliable and is peppy enough that you dont feel like you are in a dog slow death box when merging on the highway. The DOHC has more power, but the parts would have to be pieced together from a few different motors. There are comprehensive part lists on the internet so that is not a huge deal. The reason I went with the sohc is because I am more concerned with having a solid gas efficient motor. I hear the dohc have oil leak problems and a few other things like that, but that could just be hear say. It is really up to you and your goals.

get the SOHC, its a MUCH better situation than the DOHC, as for parts and less headaches.
plus i hear there's alot more aftermarket parts for the SOHC cause it is essentially an A6!! hehehe

true, sohc zc is an a6 except with more hp and torque. Plus less headaches, I don't have a dohc ac, but I hear that parts are kinda hard to find. Plus fuel efficiency
I have a sohc zc and I make more power than a dohc zc,

dohc zc ftw! i love mine, and personally i think they look cooler, too. more power and you can do just as much with them as the sohc... theres tons of places to find parts for the zc motors though, even though people think that there arent.

tunertoys has stuff

bullfrog, not sure about them but i hear theyre great

theres stuff everywhere just look!

The DOHC motor is a good choice performance wise and the parts you will need come from different motors but should be easy to source out.

for $100 extra you get a few more hp and tq. Though gas is a ***** now a days so think twice if your tight on money for gas.

FYI...

I get on average 32-35 mpg for my DOHC ZC with my mods on, and for pure freeway driving I've got as high as 39 mpg. I'm running the Si transmission. DOHC or SOHC, it really won't make a drastic difference in the mpg category as would your driving habits.

where is this misconception that dohc zc's get bad gas mileage coming from? any honda will get "bad" gas mileage if your constantly reaming on it like any 16 or 17 year old would do....but as 24ten said, he gets 30+ mpg on average, and i do too...and im running an si tranny just as he is, and i've got bolt ons and a system in the back w/ a full interior....

the dohc zc has actually allowed me to get BETTER gas mileage than i did in the city with my a6, as i have more torque and it takes less effort to reach a certain speed...
as for the oil leak issue, well, any engine can leak oil if its owner doesnt maintain it properly....the only place i noticed seepage on mine was the oil pan gasket right after its first road test...put on a new gasket and its been fine for the past 10 months or so.....and i'll be honest, i drive like more of a maniac than most 16-17 yr olds, i've got no qualms with touching 6,500 rpm on the daily, i just know that someday relatively soon, i'll break something..and i expect it...but if everything went perfect all the time, building cars wouldnt be nearly as fun would it?
