MIR Imstar Event on Sept 7th **I Need Your Suggestions**
This is Jason Miller from Maryland International Raceway. I am bringing Imstar back on Sept 7th 2008. I have some ideas on what I want to do and was going to have the following classes.
Street Stock
All-Motor Street
True Street
Wild Street
Street Fighter (unibody class with lexan, bigger turbos, stock suspension, etc..)
Sportsman E.T.
Streetbike E.T.
I was planning on also running Fun Runs too.
Anybody else have any good ideas at what you would like to see at this event? Something to make it really big?

would "street fighter" be like hotrod with wheelie bars?
true street like power street on small turbo and radials?
and wild street be like turbo street?

This is awesome! This is the kind of stuff we need to bring back SC Drag Racing.
Jason, Let us know if there is anything you might need.

some match races or just "outlaw" racecars would be a huge hit IMO. the following these guys have is just amazing. hell, there were probably more real street cars at that last event, than there were sport compacts. something along the lines of FWD vs RWD or Import vs domestic. something to keep the fans on their toes, and also bring many people together that usually dont meet or cross paths, would be a huge start to attendance being through the roof !
I would like to see this event as a sport compact event only. The World Cup (Import vs Domestic), is the only event that i want to run imports vs domestic at.
But what could we do to get things back the way they were when the sport started, when it was really big and we had 400 sport compact cars out there.

True Street and Wild Street will be like they were at the World Cup Finals last year.
Street Fighter will be hot rod style cars, but with supras, DSMs, etc... in the class as well

I liked the way the classes were set up for the world cup last year. FWD in true street at a little advantage over the AWD but nothing major. Keep them the way they are.
The world cup is the one race that is a must for me every year, even if it has not been very nice to me.

i think the turnout will depend on the rules and safety equipment needed. if these are published somewhere that would be a good start to see who's capable of racing. if the rules are like NOPI, i'd say take off the catch pan rule, the interior equipment requirements, and the min. weight requirements. the less rules, the more people show up.
not always the case.
Look at summer slam @ etown this weekend. Their rules are probably the least strict out of any event.
Not many cars showed up.
Very light, especially for an Etown event.
While less strict rules are a plus, i dont think its the main reason people show up

Thanks guys, I love the fact that you guys have confidence in us...
If you were trying to fill the staging lanes with tons of cars what would you do? What do we need to get the sport of compact racing back to the car counts like it used to be in the beginning? I am all ears. Any good suggestions?

thats a good idea, i think those are really fair fees. other than that i don't think there's much else you can do to get more racers. sep 7th shouldn't be too hot so hopefully that'll bring people out.

how do you feel the radio advertising works out for you guys jason? i noticed for NOPI i heard commercials on the radio all the time regarding it. battle, didnt have any. NOPI seemed to have a really good turn out for a "sportsman" race.
i think getting more of the manufactures involved would help. Vegas NHRA last year gave away a bunch of parts from different manufactures....and that event was huge..... anytime there is big prize money the racers are going to want to come.
there were a few events that nopi had that they gave away a little $ for best reaction time during eliminations..... just little incentives like that go a long way.
all of your pricing looks great

I liked the days of Imstar.
True Street = 67mm or smaller + 25" slicks No water 2 air IC
Wild Street = 68 - 72mm + 26" slicks water 2 air allowed?
Something along those lines?

Jason,
pricing looks more than fair
decent payouts would be a great way of getting the quicker cars to come out, but i believe all the local md, va, dc and possibly pa, nj guys will be out no matter what the payout simply to have fun racing.
the main thing that will get cars in the lanes like back in the day is going to be advertising. obviously the more people that hear about the race, the more people that will come out to race or spectate.
internet forums are great advertising but only so many people are on the forums regularly. if you want to let everyone know about an event i would suggest making as many flyers as you can and getting them to as many import performance shops in the md, dc, va area as you can. and if radio advertising is cost effective, then it would also be a great idea.
send a hundred flyers to Import Sports in Glen Burnie MD, steve and I will make sure they all get handed out
