Hello all. I have a problem that started last night and have never seen anything like it. I was in a drive thru and all of a sudden i noticed my temp go high then the gauge started going up and down. so not to blow head gasket I then turned off the engine while waiting for the food , then it would not start as it acted like I had a low battery. We pushed it out and let it cool for a few minutes and it turned over and started. I also noticed besides the temp going up also the clock was very dim. The clock light goes dim oly when I turn on the lights. The only thing that I had touched was the Ground cable that goes to the valve cover some one that had moved it to the power steering pump braket instead of the valve cover. so I moved it back. Any help would be greatly apperciated.

 

how high was it going up when it went from hot to cold. it does kind of sound like a blown head gasket though.. does this happen at all while driving, or only while sitting still? was your fan cycling on and off while this was happening?

Also the thing your noticing about the clock getting dimmer is completely normal i'm pretty sure. i have an EF so i can't say how your clock works for sure but i would imagine it's the same. It gets dim at night because it doesnt need to be as bright like it does during the day. Its most likely always been like that and you are somehow just now noticing it lol.

I'm not sure what was going on with the temp gauge. only thing i found was the pos cable was loose and that could account for the fan not comming on and the battery acting low on power. But I was chasing my tail thinking I had some type of short in the wireing. You all are a great help. I am new to Hondas and this forum has helped me more than once.
