Problem with 6th gen noise
Ok recently i had a post regarding a code p1295 when i start vehicle in morning when cold i makes a sound that i can best described like a car thats lacking power steering fluid (whinning noise until warm up). Although i removed PS along time ago so thats not a threat (HATE POWER STEERING WANT COMPLETE CONTROL). its coming from timing belt side around crank. Did some research i believe it may be a bad oil pump but unsure. Has anyone heard of an oil pump make noises only when cold. i have checked oil pressure it seems to be fine but i do have that cel p1295 (low oil pressure, Vtec). If i take it really slow the ecu clears cel itsself and when i get on the gas its comes back on putting me back in limp mode not to exceed 4k. Just looking for some advice or someone that had some warning signs before oil pump went to complete crap. Year is 01 and its a 4cyl model f23a1. Oil Pump has not been changed vehicle is at 127k i thought pump would last forever lol
It's certainly possible. The P1295 certainly points to an oil pump that isn't creating adequate pressure. I do usually see the pumps last longer than that but **** happens.
It is quite common for failing components to make noise only when cold initially. When cold tolerances are at their largest which allows more free play in a worn component. As it heats up the expansion tightens the tolerances back up.
For a prime example Google "piston slap", it is very common in the older Civics.
