I recently acquired a 94 Del Sol (Daughter bought it without an inspection :-( The Transmission started shifting hard, going into neutral between first and second gears and otherwise having all kinds of problems. Code was 41 but that code not relate to anything with the transmission. I removed the transmission, completely disassembled it, replaced the screen filter (wonderful place to put a filter - under the valve assemblies) and replaced all the clutch packs and sets of steels on the 3rd and 2/4 clutch assemplies. Checked and replaced pressure plates with the similar thickness that came out.

Found several valves stuck because of crud, and the 3rd and 2/4 clutchs burned severely. I suppose that both clutchs engaged at the same time because of the stuck valves.

I completely cleaned everything, disassembled each valve and made sure they had free travel, and reassembled with a new gasket kit. Filled valves with new D2/ Import/ Honda fluid as best I could, flushed the torque converter (I know that I should have replaced it but something about funds....), flushed all the lines and transmission cooler.

Now I put it all back together and it does not go into 3rd or 4th. When shifter is in 2nd, it shifts great from 1st to 2nd. But in 3 or 4 trans remains in first consistantly.

Reverse works ok. This transmission did not have any pressure sensors just two solenoids.

I am at a loss as where to go from here. Any suggestions on what to check I'd appreciate it.
