Default Gutted Stock Exhaust

So I'm looking to make my '07 600RR louder. I was thinking of cutting open the stock muffler and gutting it and then welding everything back up.
has anyone ever done this before? Will it be too loud? will it drive me crazy on the highway? will it get me pulled over?

Why not just get a slip on? Pretty sure you can find a used one for cheap.

insurance is huge where i live and i have to pay for tuition so buying anything isn't really an option hence the DIY approach

You can afford a plasma cutter to cut it open, and a Tig welder to weld it shut, but can't pickup a 200$ used slip on?

Or were you going to use a hack saw and JB weld?

i did my buddies VFR for him, the can is SO THIN i ended up spot welding it with the mig instead of tigging it :/
if you're careful and you cut right on a seam you can probably do it.

Ive done that to a few of my buddies bikes. And I weld on an almost daily bases and trying to tig weld that stainless back together is very difficult but very doable. Make sure you got the skills before you start. The first time i did it on an old juck one to see how easy it is and burned through a few times. Its proly not going to look to preaty either. Not to mention its going to rust from the inside out. Low budget is uderstandable but pinch some pennies here and there go give plasma a few times or something. Theres no such thing as not having enough money for parts just a lack of effort to get the money. (Ive mowed lawns, dog sat, washed cars, shoveled snow, and done handy work for parts money)

IMO Dont cut it bad idea. Wait (patience is key to owning a bike) save some money wait a few weeks or months and buy a used pipe.

Good luck

Well I was bored this morning so I went ahead and gutted my muffler despite people telling me it wasn't the best idea
It was a bitch to weld back up but other then that it was pretty easy only took 2 and a half hours to do the whole thing.
The sound. Wow. below 7k it sounds more or less stock just a bit louder and with a bit more rumble. Above 7k though it really screams. sounds like a formula 1 or something.
It was very much worth the effort and if it decides to get rusty well then next year ill buy a pipe for it.

[freak] Baffles

Yup Looks straight through to me

the VERY MOMENT a mcdonalds bike sounds like that, is when I'll sell the daytona and buy one...

I have a feeling your Honda with your redneck exhaust upgrade sounds NOTHING like that.

buying and selling a bike based on sound alone, is pretty damn queer. that being said, my buddy hacked off his cat. made a custom midpipe, and took out the baffling in the canister on his '07 CBR. it sounds like ****!!! super high pitched and buzzy.

all are capable bikes, may as well find one quality to choose them...I usually base it on performance, but if they build a bike that sounds dead on like a Ferrari V12 that revs to 18k, I would assume they could build a capable suspension, and chassis setup.

i've never heard a formula 1 in person. have you? from what i've heard on tv, well it sounds pretty similar. i guess im just a redneck though. and man, using youtube to get your point across about the sound of something? i guess you know your ****

The exhaust has no rasp to it, maybe high pitched though i'd agree with. I guess the stock baffling cuts out a lot of the high frequency stuff. but there is no buzz

I get comments ALL the time on mine- VFR800 with gutted stock exhaust...sounds like a mini Nascar(so I've been told)

Aftermarket undertail exhaust look weird to me sometimes- looks like something is missing

Well I wrecked my RC and bent the exhaust around, so I cut mine off behind the cat and its ridiculously loud. I like the way it sounds. The duc in the video above has a slapping type sound to it at an idle which sounds stupid, then the reving makes it sound decent. With the RC, i ran it with just the header to see and it sounded like that duc, I stuck the short pipes with the cat in them on there and it got rid of that and made it a little more smooth (still choppy with it being a V-Twin) but it sounds good like that but loud as hell, while it sounds like a raspy Harley, which i think is neat. Its just way to loud, the echo in the helmet is ridiculous and will def loose hearing after a while.
