While pulling out the LMA's, the #4 intake LMA's top sleeve pulled right out of the lower sleeve. Does this automatically make it invalid for reuse?
The LMA still has the same springiness as all the other LMA's. None of the other LMA's come apart. There is a small amount of separation play, but nothing more than .5mm.
Since the function of the LMA's don't put a lot of stress in the direction of separating the two sleeves, I'm wanting to say that it's safe to reuse. I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat even tho they cost $30 each, but if I absolutely don't need to, then I won't.
TIA

I would replace it. Its not a problem to do so, and if when you get it together and find out it isnt good you'd have to do the work twice.
All they do is keep the vtec rocker quiet when vtec is not on. If you reuse it and its broke, you would hear it rattle and it wont have any adverse affect on your motor. But I guess if you have a couple extra bucks, repalce it just so you know its cool...Mike
I think I have this problem... how will it behave if I have damaged LMAs?
my engine makes a rattle from 2k and up under acceleration, has a stable idle
and VTEC is intermittant on engagement. otherwise the engine is tight
but it developed this after a less than perfect valve adjustment (too tight)
and I think I might have caused them to break...

Might as well get a new one or a new set while the camshaft is out.
I think I'll just buy the one. I'm hoping I won't regret that choice tho.
