Well the situation boils down to this...

I'm starting a new job approximately 300 miles away from my hometown where I've parked my car in my parents garage for the last 5 or 6 years. My new apartment complex does not have underground or private parking (only carports). Due to theft concerns and professional image (I have a winter beater already so having a convertible with a trunk the size of a duffle bag is not an issue), I'm contemplating selling the R for an S2000 and was looking for feedback from people who have owned or driven both.

Judging from the other topic, a lot of people who ended up selling their R only ended up back with one and if that is the case with me, I would rather just keep my car than go through the hassle of selling and buying a different R in the future.

 

I'm sure you'll get an array of answers/feedback. There have been many on here that have have or have had both.

yeah to pick up something from Bed Bath and Beyond or Home Depot......If you have enough time

That is the only reason, not because the R is superior.....

EDIT: OP, the only way to go, is to own both.....

I have addressed this question in the past - seems to come up every so often...

The S is wife's DD. It's fun to drive, but I hate convertibles and lack of practicality. The R is my favorite by a long shot for lots of reasons. It all comes down to your preference however...

And Matt - I'm coming for the wheels !!!

 

I have not owned an S2000 but only driven a couple.

But you said professional image and somehow an S2000 and professional just don't run hand on hand with me. Can you somehow keep the R in your parents home and just buy another daily/professional image car that is fun to drive but at the same time does not cost an arm and leg. Maybe like a TSX???? Just don't sell the R man. Everyone regrets it.

 

Save yourself the trouble.... skip the S2000 and get a CBR

take my advice... I speak from experience.

 

I've owned both as well, ITR hands down.

 

An 01-03' TL-S can be had for pretty reasonable prices these days. I'd rock one for a daily in a heartbeat.

 

If I had an R and my TSuX I can guarantee that I would love my TSuX. As it stands, the TSuX sucks, lol.

The st00k is a great car but where do you hang your suit jacket if you're a professional? I'm a neat/tidy freak and a perpetual crease or wrinkle in my clothes would drive me crazy if I dd'd an S2K.

 

Sell it to me. I'll take good care of heR

I sold my R last year to buy an S. I'm still learning how to drive it but here are my thoughts.
The S is awesome for now, now that the weather is warm and top can be down but I am dreading winter or cold and rainy weather. Unlike the S, the R is a great all-year round sporty car. The R still feels more raw and and race-like while the S is more refined. I really miss the back seats and the hatch and how easy the R was to drive hard.
As for attention, I would say both are about the same but Rs are still so rare compared to the S. If I had the cash, I will buy another R but I want to move up the Honda ladder and hopefully get a used NSX in the next few years.
As for professional-like image, the S is definitely more mature. The R is, in my opinion, for the young or young at heart, at least in the way outsiders see the car.

 

Unlike most people, I actually sold an AP2 S2000 to BUY a Type-R.

The R is better.

With the S, it was an easier DD for me because I didn't have to worry so much about where I took it.

The S sucks for any sort of weather besides sunny weather. The R can handle anything.

For an apartment complex, if it was only between S and R, the S is probably a better bet. I hear a lot about S owners getting their ($1500 to replace) top slashed and the seats and steering wheel stolen, which often results in insurance issues (expensive stuff to replace). But I don't think anyone is going to take their precious time to cut the top on an S and take the seats at an apartment complex.

I'd say keep the R if it wasn't for the theft risk. Hell, I probably would just keep the R.

IMO, and usually you'll hear this, the R &gt; S.

 

the R-acebred.since is your complex can you built a carport or storage to park it.

 

im debating this also.to sell the my R for an s2k..s2000 = 6 speed, 240hp , convertible , RWD the list goes on

 

the HP is really worth mentioning lol it makes terrible use of 250hp, honestly.

 

I owned an AP1 and R. The R is a race car and the S2K was my daily. I sold the S2K with 88K miles on the clock. I loved the S2K. Has plenty of storage space if you also used the shelf in the back with the top up. Winter snow/ice was the only drawback and with the summer only Kumho Mx on the car... cold weather made it a little

The reason why the S2K is more "mature" is that large percentage of the average Joe/Jane of the population have NO clue that the car is a Honda. People thought I owned a BMW or whatever. Honda was their last guess. I have no clue why the average Joe/Jane doesn't know about the S2K.

S2K Advantages:
Fun, Convertible, Reliable, Quick (not fast), GREAT handling

S2K Disadvantage:
Gas mileage sucks and have to use premium, need another car for true utility or carrying more than one person, some theft issues, replace rear tires EVERY year (well, at least I had to )

 

The R is just, it's a type r!! do you want drive your average car or a freakin legend! Its the best car honda will ever make.

 

I guess I left out a lot of details since I was in such a hurry to get out of the door for the holiday...

as a DD, I have a RDX already so plowing through the snow is not an issue in the midwest winters

As it currently stands, the R only receives spring/summer/fall driving as would a potential S

I guess the gist of the post is what is better, only driving the car once every two months (the car is already underdriven with 33k on the odo) by leaving the car back at my parents home 300 miles away or trading it in for the S to have access to it whenever I please to drive and not having to worry about finding an empty parking spot. After some thought, I refuse to bring it with me if its going to be parked in public

and will the S2K come close to that feeling behind the wheel, from what people are saying its a fun car to drive but nowhere near as easy to drive at the limit or as raw as the type r

thanks for everybodies input so far though, I guess the only way to decide would be to go for a test drive

 

Find different housing with a private enclosed garage. Problem solved.
