painting tail lights?
if i were to paint my clear tail lights would i take it apart to paint the inside with candy apple red spray paint, or just on the surface? also, will you be able to see the reflection if you painted the outside or will it be covered and not visible?
I tried this once. I wanted to color match the upper red portion of my 95 taillaights to the cars paint since its nothing but a reflector. But a week later it all came off when I washed my car. Good thing too. It looked gay as hell.
But it was probably not the right paint or anything like that so just do some research. I know there paint out there that you can 'smoke' your lenses with and I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find other colors.

whenever you paint plastic you will need a special primer that acts like a bonding agent since plastic does allow paint to really stick to it....
I painted my stock Civic tailights a few years ago. I just sprayed a few coats of regular primer on, let that dry, and then began with Testors Transparent Candy Apple Red spray paint. After that was done I used a couple coats of clear coat to finish it off. The paint stayed on for over a year before it needed a new coat.
