Some advice on BOTI in Las Vegas.
If you plan on attending BOTi in Las Vegas as a spectator or competitor I figured I would give some advice on how to handle the 122 degree heat. We have been attending this event at the same time of the year for about 4-5 years.
Considering this is a Friday, Saturday event, I would recommend to drink up on water the Thursday before. Hydrate yourself before you even get there on Friday. During Friday and Saturday, continue to drink plenty of water. Bottom of the line, drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. You will be able to endure the heat.
Bring an umbrella too. It always comes in handy when you are in the staging lanes, walking around or in the stands. It is easy portable shade.
Show your support of Sport Compact Drag and let's pack everyone in the stands near the starting line on Saturday starting at 5PM to 9PM.

Also remember if you drink gatoraid. Every bottle of gatoraid you drink you need to drink atleast two bottles of water. Gatoraid will not rehydrate you and actually dehydrates you because of all the sodium in it. I learned this the hard way when Caroline suffered from a heat stroke at E-town the other year. The emt gave me this helpful hint.

Of course, an umbrella girl attached to an umbrella is always an added bonus. Makes for good eye candy as well as aid in team spirit. Just don't have the team fighting for her. Heheheheheh

What about Rock Star energy drink???
Oh yea, just remember it's a dry heat, not like the humid east.

LOL @ Wil...
We figured out another way to stay cool in the staging lanes... get a towel and soak it in the cooler water and keep it over ur head until you put ur helmet on... that saved me last year...
damn i wish i could go... id rather experience the heat and be there than being at a family reunion...
edit: i also put ice water inside my fire suit but that didnt last that long...

East Coast heat/humid you feel like wanting to take a shower after you just took one. Your skin sticks to your clothes, etc.
West Coast Dry heat, you get so dehydrated fast. Even if you dont think you are going to get hot, drink lots of fluids. lots of water. The hottest Vegas race weekend, I think i drank like 2 gallons of water, and I didnt even have to go to the bathroom the whole day. The intense direct heat from the sun is another thing that can hit you. Stay in the shade as much as possible. once you got the water and the shade going, all you have to worry about is the piercing dryness of the air. LOL.

Another tip:
if you aren't peeing, you aren't drinking enough. You should make 2-3 trips to the bathroom while at the track. If not, you aren't hydrated enough!!
And i second the suggestions of drinking water starting thursday, bring an umbrella, and soak a towel in water and drape it over your head / neck.

Ha, I remember last yr. I am hoping to make it. Will only stay for friday being that saturday is my best friends wedding
Other than that, its better to be safe than sorry! believe me. Hopefully this yr it wont be so bad.
