Plenty or power for your size, and you might get lucky to get one foot down completely for your height
You're a little man, id steer clear of a 600cc 400lb sport bike for awhile

I'm only 5'4 and I have weird proportions (I have short legs and a long torso) and I can get both feet down no problem on a 250. But I'm also on the heavy side so that helps alot. I'm sure 5'4 normal proportions would be able to touch fine with both feet.
Well some newer 600s have pretty high seats, so yeah I'd be weary
And yes, I know a lot of motogp and amatuer racers are very short, but they dont have to stop and start on odd terrain either

Why did you recommend the 50 over the 125?

I think a Ninja 250 of any year would be a great place to start. As your experience grows, and your skills increase you may be able to move up to a larger bike (in terms of power and physical size) via the one-cheek-sneak method, but until you have a good grasp on riding (i.e. 1 year+, or 5,000 miles+) I would avoid anything larger than the 250cc machines.
My advice:
Spend as little as you can on the bike as long as it is safe and reliable (cosmetic damage is fine on a 1st bike)
Spend as much as you can swing for good gear, insurance and rider training

Eh, not really. I've only had a motorcycle for a little over a month so you're assuming I've read the motorcycle threads for 7 years and more importantly always looked at the URL. Something I never did until the post explained it above.
And an '05 should know how to search my name and see where most of my topics have been created.

</TD></TR></TABLE>Bah referring to forums by the number in url is a new thing that everyone has been doing. I would say it's only been happening for a couple weeks so you aren't really that far out of the loop.

Find a 2007 or older Ninja 250 (almost hasn't changed since the 80's, very reliable). Ride that for a year or two or more.
The 250 is inexpensive/cheap, plentiful, and very forgiving, yet faster than most cars out on the road. Many riders choose to keep the 250 after upgrading because of how forgiving it really is.
Factor in that you can seat two, commute with it, that it's liquid cooled (very important for a noob), light, oh and thieves don't target it as much, I'd sugguest you go with that. Or the Ninja EX500, essentially the same since the 80's as well...till today even.
