Default M750 VS SV650

hey guys!
my s2000 is finally sold and now i need a commuter/fun bike. i have past dirt experience and i used to own a CB125. I signed up for MSF and am ordering my gear soon.
Anyway, my choices are between these two. their prices are very close (Duc being more expensive). i was just wondering what you guys think. Power wise the SV650 is up, but the ducati comes with better suspension and brakes and IS SEXY AS FACK!!!! they are both known to be great started bikes, i was just wondering what your opinions are.
<U>LETS ADD NT650'S TO THE MIX TOO</U>thanks in advance

id go with the sv650, great gas mileage, light, cheap to maintain, and you can do so many mods to them.

I'd get the SV if it was just a choice between those two. I'd look into a 800 i.e. or 695 instead of the 750 though.

I'd get the SV because, well I own one, and because they're cheap to buy and cheap to maintain. There's also a huge community for SV riders, and lots of info on anything you can imagine doing to it.

It may make a decent starter bike, but it's also just a fun bike in general.

...oh, you're buying a USED bike. nevermind.

-used SV650, new......

-don't be afraid of the maintenance, all bikes need it. just ducati's a tad more **** with intervals.

Play around with the ducati clutch for a bit

...its not all that great of a starter bike =\

That said though, I am personally looking into the new 696 for my next bike

if you are looking at sv650s, you might want to look at the 06+ ninja 650R as well

Smooth reving fuel injected inline twin, 50mpg+, looks a lot like the new 250R minus the split tail section, low seat, will keep up with older 600s 0-60 due to its low end torque

Previous monsters had the same problem... clutch modulation needs alot of getting used to. Maybe its a ducati dry clutch thing-- i'm not all too sure

Here's my attempt at SV whoring.
Just check out the 2008 sv of the month winners:
http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=63629
There's also 2007 winners:
http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=46302

And there's so many other good examples of nice SVs, that didn't win SVOTM.

SV650.

it's cheap to repair, maintain, etc. spare parts are as abundant as any bike on the road. they're lightweight, they handle great, hey've got a great powerband, modularity w/ gsxr's, and they're an all around solid bike.

they're kind of like the DC2 of bikes, if you will.

i'd trade my 750 for a SV superbike build in a second.

How heavy are you? In my experience, the stock SV suspension doesnt hold up too well for riders over 180lbs, esp if you want to do any sort of track riding.

&lt;- Had an 03 nekkid, great bike, but wanted some I4 powa

Getting used to the clutch shouldnt be a problem. My main concern is the service intevals. im going to be the one doing the service so the only cost is the parts. any monster/Ducati owners on this board?

there should be a ducati FAQ sticky lol

2v motors are cheap to maintain. Valve adjusts every 6000-7500miles
you'll be able to hear whent he valves get loose, they get louder.
$200-$400 for a vavle adjustment

Whats your budget? I;d go with an s2r800 before a 750. Hell i'd even choose a 620 before a 750. The 750 makes pretty mucht he same power as the 620 thanks to lower compression and smaller cams.

Go with a 695 or an s2r800

I got used to the clutch on my Monster real quick. The friction point on it is rather high but that's not a huge deal. I do know that the Monster has a softer clutch pull than a SV so it's far more friendlier in traffic (wet, slipper clutched Monsters - I know diddly about the dry clutched Monsters).

200-400 every 6-7k miles, and cheap? Lol are you kidding me? If you do own one, you better learn to do that stuff yourself

So i guess the F430 club your signature refers too is not what i was thinking it was lol

alright cheap relative to the 4valve motors
i dunno didn;t bother me, but then again i only have a 6 month riding season so it's only once a year.
