Default 96 accord wont go in gear

My wifes 96 auto accord will not go in gear after start up. I have to use the shift lock manualy to get it to go into gear. also when i hit the brakes the brake lights do not light up i was told there might be a brake switch on the pedal but i can not find any information about it.

Brake Light Switch, just look at the brake pedal and follow it up under the dash a little bit.

Check your speed sensors first that could be the problem why your car cannot go in gear right now my 91 honda goes to the 4th gear and then drops to second and will not go know higher my mechanic did a computer check and said one of the two speed sensors are bad and also by the way my car is automatic I hope this helps.
