Default 94 Accord AC Question

HI, I have a 94 Honda Accord EX 4cyl wagon. The air conditioner has never been great, I think the unit is the same as used in the sedan and too small for the area it has to cool. I've started looking for ways to improve it. Before adding R134, I bought a stick type gauge to check the 134 gas. It shows 44 lbs on the low pressure side when the unit is running. I can't find the pressure spec in my manual and was wondering if anyone knows what is should be.

Also, any ideas on ways to test or to improve the AC cooling would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Try getting someone to service it. First they pull all the freon out the system, then they should put a vaccumm on it for about 1 hour, this will get all the moisture and trash out that it can. then they should put the recommended charge back in. If this doesnt help much then you should replace the orifice tube (an inline ac filter) not shure if hondas have them, in this case they have a expansion valve that might need replacing.

It is a design defect, at least on some of the 5th gen cars. The heater valve can not be completely closed when turning the temperature control dial to MAX COOL. Try to turn the heater valve to complete close position by hand. The heater valve is located in the engine bay, on passenger side, close to firewall, and under the intake duct. Push the heater valve arm forward all way to close position. At least, it works for my car and my friends’ cars.

Bingo! This problem was solved by pushing the valve shut. Thanks Billy

I do not have a pic. However, it is very easy to find it:

Open the hood, stand on the passenger side close to windsheld. Looking down under the intake duct, you will find two water hoses leading to firewall (to passenger's foot rest). There is a valve in one of the hoses and there is a cable connectd to the valve arm. Push the arm all way forward.

I have the same problem, I usually just open the hood and push the valve all the way shut. I found a site with Honda recall info on it, and it had a way to fix this, I will try to find it again and post a link. Basically, the cable going from the hot/cold dial in the car just needs to be a little bit tighter so it will close the heater valve all the way.
