Default Serious stutter (& Other questions)

I know it is hard to explain car symptoms so i will try to be as clear as possible... Ask if you are unsure as to what is going on...

The car has ha a serious stutter... Just like a person trying to say a word but stuttering... When i give it gas it gets p-p-p-power then rides smoothly and then while accelerating again i get p-p-p-power stutter...

It has a check engine light on when this happens... I did the self test by jumping the harness on the passenger side...

I SWEAR the 1st time i checked it was code 16 but now i get code 17... I am going to check again tonight just to be sure but lets go with 17 for now...

I had to take it to a shop for other issues witch i will discuss later... While it was there i had them check the CEL on their system and they told me i need an O2 sensor...

I am trying to sell the car and i had someone come look at it last night... He seemed to know his stuff and told ME what certian problems were that normaly people ask ME about...

Something that shocked me though was he poped the hood with the car running and one by one pulled the plugs (briefly) and replaced them in each culinder in order... He quickly said that it sounded like the number two cylinder was no good and the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced...

Can i believe this guy... I am fairly mechanically inclined but know nothing about the inner workings of the motor... So i have no clue but he sounds like he was dead on...

Or should i bileave the shop who said it is just the O2 sensor causing the stutter...

Whats really going on here... =]

Thanks... =]

Dude....if you would have taken the time to read the thread on the top that says How to Cel's and codes you would know what the Cel code means.

Anyways if its 16=its fuel injectors.
If its 17= its VSS.
I say you go through that thread so you can determine exactly what code your getting and not guessing if its 16 or 17. Just remember long flash has value of 10 and short flashes value of 1.

Right i know what the codes are, how to check them and what they mean...

The question here is about my cars stutter and what is the REAL problem...

As well as the fact that i am getting code 16 or 17 and my shop said it is an O2 sensor...

BTW there is nothing wrong withe my injectors as far as i know, i tested them per the service manual... The likely hood that it is the injectors on this car is very slim... Hence my questions about the O2 and not the injectors or the vss which would have no effect on the car to cause a stutter...

thanks for the reply though

So let me ask the BIG questions again...

Could the stutter be caused by the O2 sensor... ??

Can you tell if the number two cylinder is bad just by removing the covers while the engine is running... ??

If so is this what is causing the stutter... ??

Thanks...
