Help choosing high performance 215/40/16 size tire

I have searched & want to know others opinions of tires that come in 215/40/16. I am looking for a high performance tire (primarly for auto-X). tire wear & cost are not major factors
here are some options
Toyo T1R
Yokohoma S.Drive
Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2
Neo Gen
KUMHO ESCTA SUPRA 712
Falken Ziex ZE-512
Hankook Ventus HRII H405

sure wish they made an R1R or R888 or Direzza z1 star spec in 215/40/16 size
I have owned toyo t1s & t1r tires and was impressed with overall performance for a street tire. looking & hoping to take a step up on the performance side
hmm maybe a step down to 205/45/16 RE-01R's is the another option

Is this for a '97-00 Civic? If so, that's the wrong size. You need 205/45-16 or 215/45-16.
If it's for a different car, let us know what kind (year, model, version). Once we can confirm the car and the size, then we can discuss tires. FWIW, you've listed quite a variety of tires, some decent, others overpriced, still others truly dreadful. As you can tell from that list, there aren't a lot of great choices in 215/40-16. But it's the wrong size for your car anyway, if it's a '97-00 Civic.

sorry I have an 1992 eg hatch (rebuilt from the ground up)... sold the ek over a year ago
EG is primarily a track car... spherical bearings all around & KW variant3 (stiff spring setup in the rear) suspension. car will have atleast 250whp LSD, 24mm rear ASR. This is my reason for choosing 215 wide tires. oh & I have to run 16's to clear the front '07 RL 4 pot calipers (rear nsx calipers in the rear). current wheels are 16x7 advan RGII's +41 offset
so what would you suggest for maximum dry performance?

Thanks for the additional information. While a '92 Civic would be better off with 205/40-16 or 195/45-16 for street use, the idea of matching the outer diameter to the stock one is less important for a track car, compared to getting better traction.
Ideally for a track car, you would want to get R compound tires. (Or, for the dragstrip, drag radials.) However, there is very little availability of such tires in 16" sizes. If you wanted to consider getting a different set of 15" wheels for track use, you could go with some R compound tires in 205/50-15 or 225/45-15. (There are quite a few good ones available in those sizes.)
Otherwise, I recommend the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 205/40-16. Despite the 10 mm treadwidth difference, they will give you better dry performance (by FAR) than any of the tires you've listed above. $84/tire at Vulcan Tire.

thanks again... no 15" will clear my front brakes... damn my odd-ball sizing setup

hmmm... after giving this some more thought with +41 offset 16x7
I need to decide between 225/45/16 (way too wide?) R888 (23.8x8.7)
and
RE-01R in 205/45/16 (23.2x7.5) <--- leaning towards

Those sizes are pretty big for your car - especially the 225/45, which will probably rub big-time.
You seem to be excessively worried about the treadwidth. Remember, what matters to performance is primarily the tire make and model, not treadwidth.
If you're really trying to compete in autocross - meaning, you've already done dozens of autocross events, and you're competitive, and you're looking for an extra couple of hundredths of a second per run - then you ought to get the Hoosier A6 autocross tire, which comes in 205/45-16. Otherwise, get the Azenis in 205/40-16. (Yes, the RE-01R is better than the Azenis, but it's also a lot more expensive, and if you're just starting out in autocross, you're wasting your money because you're still learning and your own abilities are your limiting factor, not the tires.)
