List of d-series engines and their specifications
due to the fact that I was earlier having a debate about d-series engines with someone on here, and the subject has come up lately, and also due to the fact that I have so far done 1000 posts and contributed nothing but terror to H-T I figured this might help some people. Also majority of people with a 92-00 civic have or had stock d-series motors so here goes.
I would like to state before i do this that I can not be 100% accurate on every single thing I post, so if you know of something i left out, or something I did wrong, let me know so I can change it.
The d-series engine
The d-series engine is an inline 4 cylinder engine commonly used in hondas. Most commonly the civic, CRX, and first generation integras. Its displacement ranges between 1.2 and 1.7 liters depeding upon the specific model. While the most common d-series motor is a SOHC, this engine DOES come in both SOHC and DOHC. Some SOHC models come with vtec, but none of the DOHC models do.
D series vs B series
The d-series engine was first introduced in 1984 and continued production until the 8th gen civic. The d-series is a readily available and fairly cheap engine that is easy to mod. While this engine is not quite as durable as the b-series and may not provide as much power, it is still very durable.
Common way to get more power from a d series
There are two common ways to bring more power from a d series engine. Mini me and Forced Induction.
To list all the d-series engines I could find with specs: (some of these I could not find specs on, please let me know if you have answers)

This is usually done between D16A6 and D16Z6 or D16Y7 and D16Y8 engines, however, can be performed in other combinations as well; such as a D16Z6 head on a D16Y7 or D15B2/B7 block. The Z6 and Y8 heads are VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) equipped, and increase horsepower significantly over stock levels. This operation is known as a "Mini Me" or partial swap. Mini Me's are popular because they offer a substantial performance upgrade by adding VTEC to the motor at a relatively low cost. Simply adding a VTEC head to a non-VTEC block will not increase horsepower alone. This is because the VTEC circuit must be activated and accompanied by a new 'high cam' fuel map from the car's ECU.

SOME INFO FOR ZC's
Here's some info on the DOHC ZC taken from thezcr.com:
1st gen DOHC ZC - brown valve cover - came in 86-87 JDM Integra - will bolt directly into 1st gen CRX Si and 3rd gen Civic Si - will not bolt directly into 2nd gen CRX or 4th gen Civic.
2nd gen DOHC ZC - black valve cover - came in 88-89 JDM Integra - will bolt directly into 1st gen CRX and 3rd gen Civic, same as brown valve cover, however, it uses electronic advance distributor like 88-89 USDM Integra D16A1 - 1st gen CRX Si and 3rd gen Civic Si have vacuum advance distributor, so, to use it on 1g CRX or 3g Civic, you will have to do a lot of wiring changes.
3rd gen DOHC ZC - black valve cover - came in 88-91 JDM CRX Si and Civic Si - bolts directly into 2nd gen CRX and 4th gen Civic.
4th gen DOHC ZC - black valve cover - came in several different models of JDM cars 92 & up - is OBD1 - has Cylinder Position Sensor inside the distributor and will bolt directly into 92-00 Civics
SOHC ZC - basically the same as D16A6 (little more horsepower) - will bolt directly into 2nd gen CRX and 4th gen Civic.
