Default LS Sunroof in RS, anyone?

I can buy a 96 sunroof for cheap, I'm wondering if anybody has put it in a ITR or RS. It looks like a really big undertaking. There are braces and mounts that the factory sunroof needs that the RS doesn't have. Anybody have any experiences??Opnions???

I highly recommend avoiding drilling your car unless you really have to.

Dont do it. It will leak, and its not worth the extra weight of the glass and motor.

I bought my RS used and the previous owner had an aftermarket sunroof installed. After I bought the car ad had it for about 2 years, the motor was faulty and wouldn't shut all the way. IT DID LEAK.

Well since I had no choice and had a big *** hole in my car. I had to replace the whole thing. It cost me about $900 bucks. I've had the new one for about 2 years already and it works fine and dandy, but DON'T GET IT!!! It make a lot of squeaky noises when I go up curbs and drive-ways. It bends the chasiss. Stay cleaner and with less mechanical things to worry about. Just to let cha know.

I had a rs before with a sunroof from the factory and i guarentee you it DOESNT leak at all. Whoever says itll leak doesnt know what there talking about. I work at honda and the only complaints i ever heard about installing sunroofs is that it makes a lot of squeking noises after awhile.

Yeah but my 1st sunroof wasn't a brand. I had to get some piece of sh*t brand that I could afford. Now my 2nd sunroof just squeaks.

a lot of aftermarket brands say there honda but arent actually the factory ones but anyways, if your sunroof squeeks and you got installed at a dealership, then bring it back and they should be able to fix it for you without any charge.

I wouldn't do it,

It compramises the chassis structure and stiffness, so your handling ability will go down. GSR/LS/GS all have extra support for the sunroof. It also adds weight, and it is prone to leaking.

First of all... having a sunroof in your rs wont really effect your handling. Unless your into the severe racing scene then your ok. If your racing straightaways, then for sure your sunroof wont effect your speed or performance. Dont think that having it will make your car really slow or anything.

Like anything, if it's installed well, it will work well. I don't see any reason why you couldn't just seal it up if it leaks. And if that little amount of weight makes a difference in your 1/4 mile performance, then you should just break down and cry because your car makes less power than stock. You don't have a hamster for an engine, so don't act like it.

I say go for it if you're willing and able to do it right. Like anything else, if you half *** the install, then it's going to perform half assed.

From now on, I will not try to reason with the idiots I encounter. I will dismiss them by waving my paw and saying "bah." - Dogbert
aint that the truth .lol.

I race solo2 every wednesday, if it weakens the chassy I'm not going to do it. I had a look at the car it came out of, theres all kinds of support that it has that my car doesn't have.

If it doesn't effect your handling, why did honda feel the need to use extra roof reenforcements for the integras that did have the a sunroof? I am sure they wouldn't do it if they didn't feel it was necissary, since it would cost more and add more weight.

And technically, it does add weight, more weight = slower acceleration.. even if its a very mild difference.

First of all, who said that installing the sunroof for tegs wont effect your handling? Why dont you go back to my quote and read it till you get what im trying to say. Second of all, no **** more weight=sloweracceleration, everyone knows that buddy. Unless you have a stock rs thinking your bad boy in the streets, having a sunroof shouldnt be much of a problem right???

Clam down, no need to get worked up. Its not going to help people to suger coat the results of putting in a sunroof on a car that was not designed to have one in the first place.

You said that it won't effect your handling much, I disagree. If it wouldn't honda would not have spent the extra money and weight to put in more roof support for the tegs that do have them. The weight is not a huge issue, but it is something to keep in mind also. Don't forget that honda felt the weight was enough where they didn't put a sunroof on the TypeR.

You are basicly saying adding a sunroof has no real disadvantages, and I disagree. Cutting a hole in your roof is not reversable, you better be pretty damn sure of all the effects it may have before you do it.
