timing belt on ZC help
First off I did a search and got...some of the info I need, but still need some help. When looking at the side of the engine there are two cam gears, water pump, a tentioner, and the gear at the bottom. Both of the gears at the top have arrows and have"top" written on them...so when I move #1 to TDC I guess these need to be pointing up? Both in the same direction? what about the pully gear thing that bolts on with all the marks( a set of three and a few more clockwise from those)? I can see that on the outside of the plastic housing there is a mark. Does that indicated that I'm at TDC with #1? Every thing is off the side of the engine and both the old timing belt AND all gears are marked with paint, indicating there original possition, but that is no guarrenty that hte old owner didn't shift the timing a tooth or two. I just want to make sure that my new enging doesn't have a few valves for lunch. Thanks
ok, what you need to do is make sure the arrow on crank gear, the bottom one, is pointing to the mark on the block. Then get the 2 gears pointing up like you have done. make sure the little notches on the gears themselves line up with the head/valve cover. Then hold those gears with 2 12mm wrenches or rachets, and carefully put the belt on them, and the crank gear and then route it while still holding the gears in place. You can hold the flywheel just to make sure the crank doesn't move off of TDC.
