so my car was sitting for a couple of months not being touched and now i have been driving it for the past week or 2 and its been acting up.Eating tons of oil and when i try to start it, it wont start but if i leave it off and come back like 10 minutes later it works.So tonight i was driving and it just turned off and when i tried to start it, the car was cranking to turn on and it started backfiring out the exhaust sounding like firecrackers. i just put in new spark plugs and i have a new alternator to put in tomorrow and i also put a new distributor and rotor on. Does anyone have any ideas why my car is acting like this??

 

Rotor screw came out? If it's not that, check your camshaft timing and make sure its all set correctly still.

Engine may need a rebuild.

You may not be retaining gas in your fuel system, and it leaks out. The pump has to fill and pressurize the system first before it can start.
