Default Power surging....WHAT THE HELL?!

OK, I got my first bike a little over a month ago. After a few days of riding it I found the power surged in/out when you tried to get on it at all, in any gear. I found the battery was lose so I zip-tied it and that seemed to help. The guy I bought it from said it might be from bad gas due to it sitting so long. So I've been running 93 and it seemed to help the problem but the bike still will surge in/out with the power very randomly. For instance, I rode say 150 miles today with zero problems and then parked it for about two hours. After the two hours I went to ride the 10 miles home and the bikes power was surging bad. I could be on the freeway and floor it in 6th and it wouldn't go any faster. If I dropped a few gears it just emphasizes the surging a lot more but still nothing.

What the hell could cause this? I've ridden the last 1000 miles surge free and then it just shows up. I had 75 miles on the tank of gas so I had plenty of gas in it. It's beginning to irritate me and I have no clue what it could be. It's happened a few other times and if I let it sit again and then go out later it's back to normal. Very strange.

Any ideas? lol

Check the battery leads? Does the bike completely nose over and die ever, or just surge?

I haven't had it die. And a better word is bucking. The thing bucks like a bad horse if you're in a power gear and try to get on it. The nose is just jumping up/down. Drives me nuts. It has to be some kind of lead I would imagine.

What bike year/model/cc's are you talking about? The more info the more people will be able to chime in with ideas.

Edit: After reading your sig I see it's an '04 F4i. Do you know if any performance electronics have been added? ie Power Commander, cheap immitations, etc

I'm really not sure if it has a power commander or not. As far as I know it only has a Two Brothers slip-on. I just took it for another spin tonight for 1 hr 1/2 without one hick-up. I had re-checked the connections from the battery before I left again and everything looked fine. Beats me what the problem is.

I've tried running a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and that didn't solve it. I plan on taking all the fairings off tomorrow and I'll check for loose connections.

Take a look at the ECU when you are in there. You will be able to see if there is a piggy-back FI module on there. Before you waste any money on fuel system cleaners and similar products, check the basics. CA models have oxygen sensors that read the air/fuel mixture, and when dirty they can lead to jolting. I'm not sure how your bike is setup, but your problem likely lies in the air/fuel mixture.
