u guys should see the graph for this motor when we swapped out a whale ***** system for an 3" sri, bpi stack w/ 6" x 9" aem micron filter....lol. i guarantee'd the owner that he'd make more power and seeing that there was a good 45mins of spare dyno time, it was tested. back to back pulls. the owner was satisfied with his final results (w/ whale *****), but we had to know. hopefully Zman can post the chart 2moro

i still prefer the graph that a tuned 3" cold air gives the h22.

thought out builds ftw

Everytime I see one of this builds, it makes me think h2b. But I got a EF which makes an h2b a pain in the a** because of valve cover to hood or header to ground clearance.

heres the dyno graph of the whale ***** VS a 3" short-ram intake.

BLUE is the short-ram
RED is the whale *****

The short-ram made more power across the board. Rollow Lawson called it before we switched it over. He said 5whp across the board and was pretty much right, then spoiled us with some chicken and ribs....lol.

Good results! Thanks for sharing. What did you do for valves/valve springs/retainers?

whats the piston to deck height??

f23 stuff has a 1.181 compression height compared to 1.220 for h22, so w/those pistons you would have had to have a thick headgasket.

in a stock h22, the mahle pistons are closer to 12:1, not 11.5:1

no clue, this isn't my car, i'm just going off a list that the owner of the car gave me, all i did was tune the car.

I think he was using skunk2 valvetrain with OEM valves and an OEM headgasket.

pretty solid dyno graph, got a similar build on the way but i went to a 89mm bore with stock H crank and F23 block(couldnt find a decent H block around here) too much money wanted for a decent shortblock around here...

Gord Bush ftw

Good job on the tune Z. Saw this motor in person, impressive torque numbers.

Nice build, GB did my machine work.

Seems like the Vtec cross-over cold be dropped a bit to get a flatter torque curve... yea or nay?

nay. a good amount of time was put into the tuning session, as expected. GB & Zman provide exceptional services

In my world time and quality don't always go hand in hand. If that was the dyno sheet the tuner handed to me for $500, I'd tell him he needs to do some more work... just my $0.02.

Tempted more and more everyday to just bite the bullet and just go to Jeff Evans.

you'd be pissed with over 160ft/lbs from 3000 all the way to redline?

If you look at the dynosheet with the 2 graphs (the intake comparison one) you'll see more torque down low, but it would detonate at like 4000rpms, so i had to pull some timing, as a result the power went down a little in that area.

With vtec any lower than it was (5200 if i remember correctly) there would be a dip as vtec engaged, so vtec definately didn't want to be any lower. Again, if you look at the 2nd dyno sheet you can see a little dip when vtec engaged at 5100rpms.

So basically, what we did was reach MBT for the gas we were using, if you think evans can do more than that, then he'll most likely be using race gas.

Some people just have unsurpassable expectations and want to blame the tuner after they didn't make the power they wanted. But the owner of this car was more than happy with the results, and to me, thats all that matters.

And theres more to cars/tuning/performance than just dyno sheets, but i guess thats all that matters to you.

ur world obviously is limited to the forums here on HT. just out of curiosity, how many b series motors have u taken to the dyno and had tuned, wot? i laugh when i here "i'm tempted to go to J.Evans".....LOL! we live in Canada, man....wake up. tuning isn't a basic procedure. i mean a tuner can not change the characteristics of a motor. that is all controlled by the design of the parts used in the build. i thought u knew that????? i can't wait for u to take ur motor to J.Evans and get it tuned. when u get back, im me and we'll meet a Tag and rip off a few pulls (3 for $30) and we''ll see if ur money is well spent. cuz if 230whp & 186wtq is unacceptable, then i want to see if ur motor can produce better numbers than my lsv with small *** bc3+ cams and 2nd gen b16 im, on the same dynojet. i'm down 1000%. i can't wait to see ur face when the screen spits out the numbers eventually, people realize that without a power adder, a TRUE 200whp isn't easy at all. Marty, link me when ur ready
