Default screwed up my a/c

My a/c wasn't cold enough so I went to recharge it yesterday using one of those cans and I think I screwed something up, now every time the compressor engages it makes a little sucktion sound, almost sounds like its got hick-ups, and rpm's fluctuate like crazy. Is this a sign of maybe air in the system or something? how can I check that?

Any Ideas on how I can fix this?

thanks

Well, if things started right after adding a can of refridgerant, I guess you could get the system drained, vacuumed, and put new refridgerant in. Did you use a gauge to check the pressure and only connect the can to the low pressure line? I doubt you could have seriously damaged anything, as long as it's still working.

Didn't use a gauge but did connect to the low side. how can I drain the system? do I need to buy a pump?

Well, there's the legal way and the illegal way. Legal way would be bringing it someplace that can recapture the refridgerant. Illegal would be just draining it by pushing the pin down in the valve. You will need to have a vacuum pulled on the system though, using a vac pump. I think it needs to be something like -28PSI, but don't quote me. Then that has to be held to allow anything to boil off.

There's a chance that it's just too much pressure. You will need a gauge to refill the system anyway, so you could just check that before completely draining it.

Other than that, did you have the can right side up or inverted when you added to the system? That would determine if you added gas or liquid. I don't do HVAC though, so I guess my best piece of advice would be to consult a liscenced technician who knows what they are doing.
