Two unrelated questions. Brakes and center console
I just picked up an 89 Hatch, and ive got 2 questions.
The first, important question is about my brakes. When i bought it, the brakes felt a little soft, and when i had the car certified i asked them to check it out. They said the brakes were fine. However, on my way home after work yesterday, i had NO brakes. The pedal fell right to the floor, and when it got there, the brakes slowly let off until i would start to roll again. I think ive narrowed it down to only happening when its hot outside, because the other times ive driven the car, it hasnt been that warm out. Today for example its cool, and my brakes work perfectly fine. Im going to take the car back to where the certification was done and have them look at it, but i just want to know what it could be. I was thinking master cylinder, but that doesnt make sense because it should do it all the time. The other thing i was thinking was line flex, as im pretty sure it still has the original brake lines at the wheels.
Second question, non-life threatening, im missing a peice in my center console... i think. I put a stereo in there, and theres nothing to bolt it up to. In my CRX, an aftermarket deck fit perfectly into the slot, and there were holes to put screws into. In the civic, ive got about 1/2" on all sides. Do i need to buy a mounting kit? I looked around for some, but all the kits ive seen come with a lower pocket, and look like theyd fit my "old" 99 civic, but wouldnt fit in my current car. I have a feeling im missing a plastic trim peice or something but i cant remember seeing them when ive been digging around at the junkyards. If anyone has a picture of what it should look like with an aftermarket deck, or confirm that i need to buy a mounting kit, id appreciate that.
