Default Really nooby questions but I have to ask..

Well Im a recent buyer of a new 03 RSX Type S and I found these forums and was browsing and I had a few.. really noobish questions. I seriously tried every search engine to try and find the answers for myself but I couldnt come up

1. What exactly does DC5 stand for? (Searching DC5 kept coming up with some 70s or 80s group.. it was kinda weird..) I know some of you are saying you cant believe it.. I cant believe I cant figure it out myself either.

2. I bought my RSX with no Type S emblems on the car (Looks pretty clean as if it were shaved.) So I wanted to buy new ones for the front and rear. I bought the rear one already but I cant find a front Type S emblem for the 03 model of the RSX. Im guessing it doesnt exist? Can someone confirm?

Again, thanks for any feedback on the questions. I really appreciate it. I love my new RSX and I just want to make sure I get everything straight cause I'll be keeping it for quite some time steadily upgrading.

1) VIN/Engine code that you see on ALL cars to identify them. JH4DC5blahblahblah. Older Hondas like a coupe is 1HGEJ8 or7 or 1 depending on trim level. Ignore the 1st 3 and then the 2nd three you use to identify your car.

2) Pretty sure eBay has those ricer Red badges.

Yeah, stock badges are right up there with big aluminum wings and underbody lights.

type s front embles do not exist, they are rear type s emblems that have been stuck on the front......you should be getting honda emblems instead....dc5? these are all names to identify cars...dc5 is rsx, dc5 A1 is type r, dc5 A2 is type s, dc5a3 is base model automatic, for example...a 95 integra is a dc2, and so on....

No thats the dumbest question I've ever seen. some cars have no badges. why would it matter what badges are on a car.

Thanks for the help guys. I figured out about DC5 being part of the VIN number and etc when I registered my vehicle lol. And I dont care about any red honda emblems or anything for my RSX. I only saw some front Type S emblems on a RSX's grill and I thought it looked pretty clean so I was curious.

Anyway one more question. I've already looked at the Hydrolocking FAQs and topics but I still have a few questions..

When I bought the car, there was already a AEM CAI on the car, not a V2 but it looked pretty short and stayed fairly within the engine bay. I know some CAI's go all the way below the car so they have better air flow and thats the easiest way to Hydrolock but with the CAI staying pretty far in the bay is there still a chance of hydrolocking?

And I really want to get a new CAI cause I went back to the dealership to change it out for the stock intake since the AEM CAI didnt have a CARB and I've been pulled over and cited $500 for that in the past (Damn California).. So I needed the stock intake in case I get a fix it or whatever. But are there any good CAI's that you guys would recommend with CARB stickers and no hydrolocking issues? I dont care about the price cause I'd rather spend the extra $100 or so for something so I can keep on and have good performance and not have to worry about it. I heard the AEM V2 is good.. any inputs?

The intake you had is already CARB exempt. Sorry you wasted $500...then more at the dealership!?. What you should have done was contact AEM and acquire the proper documentation.
If the filter sits in the engine bay, it's not a CAI. Maybe you have a short ram?
As for hydrolocking, depends if the areas you drive in are prone to flooding/excessive rainfall. gl

No but cops used to ask me a lot of questions after pointing out that the tag was registered to an Acura but it said Honda on the car....

If I was you I wouldn't bother putting the Type-S badges on, it will make your car a bigger target for thieves because the A2 is more desirable than the A3 out of the base RSX's.

Yeah you were right. I just looked up short ram intakes and Im positive it was one now.. So what's the difference between SRI's and CAI's regarding performance and hydrolocking?

I live in Southern California and for the majority, Its pretty dry and hot. But the thing about my area is sometimes its crazy stupid weather. It'll be 100 degrees one day and flash floods the next few.. then back to 100 degrees. But even so.. it probly rains here like.. a total of maybe 20-30 days out of the entire year. But every couple years.. My area experiences el nino as well.. so that sucks.

I've witnessed hydrolocking with my brother before so I seriously dont want that to happen to my car. He hydrolocked while driving in rain and didnt go over puddles and I've seen a few other instances where puddles didnt cause hydrolocking.

And then I read about SRI's and heat soaking and being in so cal where it gets to over 100 in the summer.. Im not sure if thats good for me either. Although its pretty dry and not humid.

The intake system is the first thing I want to replace but Im not sure where to start.. Any ideas/tips?

The CAI will give better gains. You won't hydrolock your car unless you drive through a ridiculously huge puddle and have no/ damaged fender linings or you submerge the filter.

SRI is good but you have to deal with heat soak. As for the CAI. Just get a bypass to prevent hydrolocking.
