Default noob question: safe boosting??

i wanna turbo my car, replace all internals, and a fine tune...

my engine has 88k on it tho..do u think it is healthy enough or could it maybe be too old for boost??

i'm planning on doing a compression test to see how my cylinders are doing soon...

what do you guys think

sorry for the noob question and thanks for all positive comments in advance

88k miles on a Honda is still young but do leakdown and compression testing to see for yourself how healthy it is. here's a good read for a B-series owner:

It depends how much power youre looking to make. Youre motor is young and if its healthy than you might be satisfied with what you can make on stock internals.

hey guys i'm back...

so i did a compression test on all four of my cylinders and these are the results i got from 1 - 4 (left to right):

1 2 3 4

180 175 170 170

- i kno these numbers aren't the greatest, but i wanna boost this engine...do you think i'm safe for boosting? if so, what do you think the max boost i can have on the car???

thanks for the positive comments in advance and sorry for the noob questions

Your fine, the actual numbers dont mean too much when your just trying to determine how healthy an engine is unless it is wayy low like 150 or something like that.

The differences between the numbers is what matters and there is only a 10 comp max difference between yours which is fine.

Maybe I missed it, but you didnt say what engine you had therefore I cant say how much boost you would want to have. I know gsr at or below 300 is fine, not too sure about other b series engines.

Either way dont buy ebay shitz get it tuned and run it within your safe limits and you should be fine.

I know a stock ls block making 580 whp, head is stock also except dual valvesprings and ti rets. Homeboy is using a full race turbo kit. Tuned at Churches. 11.8 sec. daily driven

And how long has that setup lasted so far? If this is his daily driver I would assume he wants to be safer than sorry. Still nice setup either way.

Also when I said 300 I meant horsepower to the wheel or =whp.

So basically as long as you around or below 300whp you should be in the safe limits. You CAN go above like the other guy below said, but most likely all that will happen is things will break if your tune isnt DEAD on.

yeah this is a daily driver...no i am not looking for 500 horses...i wanna hit 300...

i hear stock internals are good up to about 300 horses...u think i should just replace them anyway??

i also found some prices...

for je low compression plus idk wut kinda rings plus eagle rods is around 860...is that a good price?? (thats with no installation)

Its always better to prepare your engine for force induction, but your internals should hold up fine if your lookin for 300-350 whp

im planning to boost my gsr by next summer and it has 120k so far. compression results on mine were all around 230 +/- 10 (tested last weekend). im also looking for 300WHP daily driven and im planning on doing a peakboost kit, Skunk2 intake manifold, Skunk2 valvetrain, Stock internals, hondata s300 just the basics to run safe enough. at 80k your internals should be in great condition no need to replace them. From doing my research for my build the MOST IMPORTANT PART FOR ANY BUILD IS A GREAT TUNE!!!

yeah that makes me feel better about it...i got a type r intake manifold so i don't think i should worry about that..i plan on putting in some turbo cams from skunk2...obviously hondata and a tune but idk what else i'll technically need besides the turbo itself

I'm not entirely sure but i dont think a Type r manifold will fit a GSR. Well you have your power goal 300WHP a turbo kit like peakboost or full race can give you 300whp from a completely stock gsr and to be real safe add some axtra parts from the list no need for turbo cams really.

but aside from that..

i was told that this turbo kit is actually a good bang for my buck...only thing i need are injectors and that's it....tell me what you think...

ive also heard some pretty good things from the afi kit but since it seems your worried more about safely boosting i would get more than just injectors. and maybe your intake mani could be an early generation Skunk2 manifold
