Default Why do I need an obd1 dizzy?

I really didn't know how to search for this and even if I did how successful it would be I don't know.

Here's the deal; I have an A6 w/ a Y8 head in a CRX Si. I have the jumper harness and a p28. I talked to a few honda guys around where I live and they said I don't need an obd1 distributor. I was wondering why I would need one if it did require to have one. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks - Dave

well who ever your honda guys are i think you should slap em upside the head. yes you need an obd1 distributor. if you dont run one your car will not run. you can use and obd2 dizzy as well you just need to re-pin it (or pm me i can make adapter harnesses for the dizzy if your uneasy about re-pinning). there is an added sensor i believe in the obd1+ dizzy that the ecu looks for without it the car wont run.

i know this because i tried to run my 89 z6 HB wit the stock si dizzy and it didnt run till i put in the obd1 dizzy.

OBD-0 Distributor outputs signal at 16 Pulses / Revolution.
OBD-1 Distributor outputs signal at 24 Pulses / Revolution.

The corresponding ECU's are only looking for that signal, any more or any less they can't use the data.

Thanks both of you for the info. I probably will give em a couple smacks... Si R, do you sell the adapter plugs? Does it need to be a V-tec dizzy?

Z6 distributor has a different bolt pattern than the A6 and Y8. So you need to get the correct one. OBD-1 and 2 distributors have the same outputs, OBD-0 does not. So you can either use the OBD-2, or the OBD-1 with the correct bolt pattern. Dont ask me which one as I'm too tired to dig up the specific model. Go bother a well written mini-me guide.

OBD-0 to Obd-1 dizzy adapter

Or get your harness converted to this

Parts needed for conversion:
*Obd-0 to Obd-1 ecu jumper harness
*Obd-0 harness converted to Obd-1
*Obd-1 ecu & Distributer
*4 wire o2 sensor

* I make all these conversions along with adapters and sub harnesses *

You don't need to have an adapter unless for some reason you plan on reverting back to OBD-0 in the far distant post-apocalypse future.

You can also use a Y8 distributor. OBD-II distribs work with OBD-I
