Default Ducati 848

I was thinking about buying this motorcycle (and having it shipped to Japan). It looks great but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with it? From what I hear it is a nice handling bike but moderate power, not as "explosive" as some of those 600cc 1000cc japanese race bikes.

Or just your general opinion on it would be cool.

It's a great bike, pretty much every sportbike out there is good at this point or the manufacturer will lose a ton of money, its a cut throat market.

I wouldnt advise to get one though, first bike? A bit much power wise and price wise.

And why in the world would you want to ship a bike TO japan? Everyone is trying to ship the good ones FROM there.

I can only dream of owning a vfr400r .

Haha, this, if I get it, is going to be my third bike. I think I worked out all the kinks in my riding ability.

First bike kawasaki ninja 500r downed 3 times
Second bike Yamaha R1 NEARLY downed once but was able to regain control with a locked rear brake when I somewhat skidded over a puddle.

Contrary to popular belief I have not seen a single Japanese sport readily for sale in Japan. Either they are special ordered items or they have lost popularity because I have searched pretty extensively and come up with nothing.

Ducatis are expensive here. They are about 75% more expensive than the US.

75% MORE expensive?? Thats ridiculous, ouch.

And I highly doubt you've "worked out all the kinks" in your riding ability. But it's good that you have confidence, make sure to not get cocky though.

Well I shouldn't say there are no sport bikes, but bikes are franchised differently here. There are sport mopeds, etc and a bunch of bikes they have here that the US doesn't have. But there are no YZF R1s, gixxer 1000s, zx10rs or cbr1000rrs. Not that I've seen anyways.

A ducati 1098 runs about 24K (in light of the falling US dollar) here.

I live out in the booneys so riding is marginally safer than lets say riding in tokyo or kawasaki.

How bad is that tiered licensing system over there?

Well a ducati 1098 is about 2.4 million yen. In 2002 that would have been like 20,000 USD but today thats pretty close to 24K. Aren't they like 15K in the US?

Licenses? Seeing how moronic some people drive here, I can't imagine they would be hard to get.

its tough.....its like 13500 us for a 848...... then its 15000 us for a 1098.....what to do? thats what got me stuck...so instead i just kept the RR......get the 1098 and sell it out there....then make your money and get your 848 a bit cheaper since you may make money off the 1098...... then when you get on the 848 it sill just suck after being on the 1098....just a thought... then sell the 848 and get a nice NSR REPSOL 250 and sell that here and then get 1098R...ooohhhhhhhh...
