service maintenence light flashing but not lit...(searched)
what does it mean if the service required light flashes on and off several times but does not stay lit?
i thought it always was a warning a recommended service was coming up...

i thought breaking something = CEL

must be serviced if flashing, steady light means bs maintence. in other words go to the dealer cause you broke something.

Maintenance light is only ever related to maintenance.
It's a smart tactic to make it look like something is wrong with the car by making the light blink. I'm sure it makes loads of people panic and bring the car in for service immediately.
I always get called by the dealership for not coming in to service my car.
"Hi, I'm calling in regards to the 2000 Acura Integra."
"The car has 8000 miles on it."
"Oh. Bye."

it flashes first, then if you ignore it like most people, it goes on steady. at least I think that's what it did in my car, I removed the bulb so I dunno.

for those that don't know:
ignition key in the off postion
push in reset button (to the right of the steering colum)
turn ignition key to the on postion
wait till mrl blinks
turn ignition key to the off postion....
mrl-amazingly... more annoying then that damn door chime
it's funny my mom freaks out everytime she sees that damn light like the cars gonna explode

yeah flashing just means you should probably get a maintenence check or whatever. then it goes solid after like 1k miles if you don't mess with it. mine just started flashing.. and it scared me because i mistook it for the cel
