sometimes when i crank up my car it'll have a hard time cranking, then it'll just stop cranking altogether and give this weird sound (which im guessing that it's bogging? i dunno what bogging sounds like).. but other times it'll sound like a healthy crank but it'll take forever just to start the engine.. and when it starts up, it gives this wheezing noise. im already going to be replacing my battery to see if that could be the culprit, but could it be a starter problem?
Sounds like you got a couple problems: a cranking problem, and a running problem. The cranking problem sounds like it could be the anything. The way I like to diagnose/repair problems like this is by starting with the easy stuff first. Take the battery to your local auto parts store and have them test it. If its good, clean or replace your grounds from the battery to the chasis, and motor to chasis. If that doesn't help, take off the starter and have it tested at a DC electricall repair facility. If that's fine, you might look at the key switch and wiring from battery to starter and switch to starter.
After you get the cranking problem fixed, you can start on the running problem. Good luck!
