I need to replace my muffler and the over-the-axle pipe on my 95 Del Sol S with the 1.5 engine.
The pipe is held on by the two bolts with springs.

Are the nuts on the mounting flange that the spring-bolts screw into welded in place? My replacement bolt kit comes with two nuts in the package.
I have been spraying them down with PB Blaster for days, I used a torch to heat the nuts, and I still snapped one of the bolts. I'm leaving the second bolt in place for now and going to get a beer.
If the nuts are welded on, should I just cut them off and through-bolt the new pipe?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i helped my friend change his gf's muffler on her GSR... and what we did was get an adjustable wrench and put it on one side and had it holding the nut or bolt and get a ratchet wrench and then put it on the other side and then stomp so it can break the torque on the nut/bolt.

i had to lay on the ground and then kick the ratchet wrench to loosen the bolt from the nut.

 

pb blaster is your friend. soak the bolts a few days in advance and again prior to attempting to remove the bolts. i did this to my exhaust last week and they came off as if they were brand new
