Purchasing an Integra. Some Questions (Which OBD?)
I am looking at purchasing an integra claimed to be 96 (but VIN check says 95). I was wondering if 95 integra (maybe mid-year 95) are OBD I or OBD II. I have a generic OBD II scantool that runs off my laptop. With cars these days I feel a scantool is an important part of a mechanics tool kit as it came to be very valueable in working on my Mitsubishi 3000GT.
Anyway if it is OBD I (which I believe), what will I have to purchase to pull codes. I am NOT going to use an AVM or flash the CEL. I want a scantool!!
Also just wondering how does this sound as far as "is it worth it." A 1995 integra LS bone stock. AC ice cold and shifts smooth as butter. Brakes and shocks done recently. At 112 miles I am long past the 80k service and a long way away from the 160k(or is it 90\180 ---- Timing belt). The only problem is I can see oil leaking from the valve cover and the oil pan is a little wet. The oil level was a little low, .25 qt. He claimed he never really adds oil, only changes it at regular intervals. Even if I must do the oil pan gasket, I dont think it should be that expensive (A shop I know did my friend's clutch job for $300.....). I am just looking for a reliable DD. I think its golden. He wants $3000 for it.

No there is a scantool for OBD I. It is just propriety. If you go to a honda shop or the honda dealer they will read your codes with a scan tool, just not a generic OBD II one.
With the mitsubishis for example. OBD I mitsu can be read with a program called "pocketlogger" that runs off a palm pilot. The dealership will use a scantool called the MUT-II. OBD II can be read with a generic tool obviously.

Na pretty useful. Besides easily pulling CELs a real scantool can pull sensor data. For example if I dont see the 02 sensor voltage flucuating I obviously know the sensor is dead.
