Default my plate flew off!

So I get off work today, hop on my bike and ride to cycle gear to buy oil, and then 10 miles to the next town over where I'm meeting my friend's dad, and then we're going to ride to their house together.

I get there, and get off my bike to go get him, and when I come back I notice I don't have a plate. *****!!

I retraced my exact route tonight in my car and I don't see it anywhere. If one bolt fell off, I can picture that. But for both bolt/nut combos to fall off during one ride, come on! If it was dangling on one bolt for a while I suspect it would have waived back and forth a little, possibly banging up against stuff, but there are no indications that it even existed.
Bumsville.

I've gotta get in to the DOL with this notarized form saying I lost my plate, and then buy a new one. Unfortunately, I can't get in until Saturday, so all this nice weather is just going to have to pass me buy.

Weird

I must admit. I LOLed at the title...especially the exclamation following those words.

I think I just had crush washers and a hulk sized amount of torque on there. I was never on the road for more than 20 minutes between stops all week so it just blows my mind that both bolts fell off in one sitting.

Is it possible someone jacked your plate?

It's possible, but the only place I was parked publicly since the last time I saw my plate was cycle gear for all of ten minutes.
I keep my bike parked under a porch that's walled off so people can't see it. I didn't find nuts and bolts anywhere so I assume they didn't take it near my apartment.

Next question, How much is a new plate? I'm betting it got snatched, I've never seen them fall of a car or a bike.

I just called the dol here and they said total charges are 11.25 so I'm fine with that.
I'm almost betting it got snatched too, but now I'm worried about where it got snatched and when.

Thats not bad, just becuase people can't see it when its parked, doesn't mean people don't see you park it. For the next plate you could strip the screws when you put it in, but it might not be worth the hassle. My guess is somebody slapped it on a stolen bike and yours was in the right place.

Well hopefully all they wanted was the plate. And I know no one took it from under my porch because I have a motion detecting camera watching that spot, and no one goes there.

I had two bolts going in to through-holes with nuts on the other side. I plan on doing the same thing again, but using those nuts that don't free spin, and then safety wiring the bolts.

my plate few off before and i had to go to the dmv and they charged me 30 bucks. nj is a scam. you have to do it quick though cause if someone finds ur plate before u tell the dmv and they throw ur tag on there bike and gets pulled over, the coppers are comin to ur door.

I think I can get this taken care of tomorrow, so hopefully nothing bad happens with my previous plate before then.
