Would 50 series sidewalls look funny on a Stock R?
I need to purchase some tires for 97. My current tires are 55 series sidewall. I want to run Falken RT-615's which only come in 205/50/15. How goofy would it look? I am on stock suspension. I hate small sidewalls and fender gap
Anybody? Thanks

205/50/15 looks great. I would bet that 70% of everybody in here has a set with this size on it as well.
Heres a pic from Expo on that very same tire size.

It will work fine; as Shawn mentions, lots of us use 205/50-15, including me for my track tires.

Did you really mean to say this? Most people want shorter sidewalls and smaller fender gaps. Or were you kidding?
FWIW, 205/50-15 won't change the height of your sidewalls much (it will shorten them, but by less than 0.2 inch), and won't change the fender gap much either (in fact, it will increase the fender gap, but again by less than 0.2 inch).
If you want shorter (or taller) sidewalls, the best way to do that is by getting different diameter wheels, not by getting the wrong tire size. On an ITR, you can shorten the sidewalls with 16" wheels and 205/45-16 or 215/45-16 tires, and shorten them more with 17" wheels and 205/40-17 tires. Taller sidewalls, you can't really do.
If you want less fender gap, the best way to do that is by lowering the car, usually with aftermarket springs, not by getting the wrong tire size. If you want more fender gap, the best way to do that is by selling your car and getting an SUV.

Hmm, kinda along with this, how much difference would the 45 series run on the ITR Wheels? I've got 205/50 right now on my JDM 96 spec on the Accord but mayyyyy want to drop down a smidgen more.
Anyone rocking that with some pics?

It's a REALLY BAD IDEA to lower your car by using tires that are way smaller than stock. Again, the proper way to lower your car is with the suspension.
Also, the best size depends on the car, not just on the wheels. So the best size on an Accord has nothing to do with the best size on an ITR. So your question is irrelevant here.

not to my knowledge?
the size numbering is a ratio...
XXX/YY
XXX is the section width of the tire in mm
YY is the ratio of width to sidewall height
i would assume all brands have the same standards for this?

no, some manufacturers use different sized mm

I was just going under the assumption that same size tires from different manufactures sometimes arent exactly the same sizes. slight variations between manufacturers. I could be wrong.

You would be correct in that assumption. You look at a 205 from a Bridgestone RE01R, Azenis 615, and a Kuhmo ASX (Just picked em cuz I'm familiar with em) and will get 3 diff sizes all claiming to be 205's. Of course the diff is small but there is a diff.

While width (the 205mm part) is usually different between manufactures, the overall height and sidewall height is usually very, very similar between manufactures.
A 205/50/15 will always be about a 23.1" tall tire. A 195/55/15 (OEM R size) will always be about 23.4" tall.
IMO, the 195/55/15 works better on the stock 15x6" wheel. You get a lot of slop with a wide 205/50/15.
As for looks, you can tell a slight difference in height, and the 195/55/15 will fill out the fender a little better.
