Default Integra Won't Start After Headgasket Install ....

Car: 1995 Integra, SE, Auto, 206K miles, B18B, OBD 1, ALL STOCK.

I helped a buddy do a Headgasket install this past weekend and when we went to start it -- nothing.

Here's some things he told me that he did (I wasn't for it, but it's his car). The car WASN'T at TDC before this was done. He made two marks with white-out on the cam gear and timing belt to denote the position of the belt. He also put the two dowel pins in the wrong 2 holes (in the front (intake) not the rear (exhuast)).

I did notice minor slack in the timing belt (minor arch in between both cam gears) when he was turning it via the crank pulley bolt. This "slack" didn't affect the belt by slipping because after a couple of revolutions the white-out marks lined up again.

All grounds are fine, I made a mark on the dizzy so I know that's not the problem. I smelled that the car is getting fuel. The ignition wires are in the correct order. I checked all VAC lines. The MAP and TPS aren't switched. The Headgasket isn't put on backwards (I know some people have by accident).

I'm totally lost guys

check the spark plugs, sounds stupid but could be the answer, a bad gasket could have fouled them

do you have spark??? are you sure you have fuel??? did you try spraying carb/choke cleaner or starting fluid in it and see if it will run..... check compression??? most importantly. use the correct marks and make sure everything lines up correctly for the timing belt...if that is off u will be messing with it forever trying to get it to run

It was the crank timing. He put the car at TDC (per the cams) and the #1 piston was at the bottom of the cylinder. Fixed that and she started up 1-2-3. Next time I told him to put the car at TDC!!

Also, the LS cams have those little holes on the #1 cam cap which help serve as a guide for TDC. I think you can use a 5mm punch or maybe 4mm to have it set in there.
